So me and a buddy wanted to split the knight box between us. As far as we know it comes with two basic knight kits and one upgrade sprue. Since it has one upgrade sprue it looks like we only get
1 Gauntlet
1 Stormspear Missle Pod/ironstorm missle pod
1 Icarus Auto Cannon
1 Avenger Gatling Cannon

He wants to run his a Paladin for his space marines. He wants to equip his knight with the Rapid-Fire Battle Cannon, The Thunderstrike Gauntlet, and the Stormspear Middle Pod.

I am going to paint my knight red and use it in my Admech in War Convocation as well as in my Khorne Daemonkin Army as an allied Renegade Knight. My dilemma is that I want to build a knight that will work in both armies as well as staying competitive (semi) on top of only having some options available to me.

Here is what I have come up with

1 Reaper Chainsword
1 Avenger Gatling Cannon
No carapace pods

Now I am bummed he wants to use the pods and I wont be able to. Will my knight still be semi competative without it? Or should I speak to him and maybe get the pods from him? Is it worth it to fight him on the fist vs the chainsword?

I would have these options available to me without a fight

The Melta Cannon
Rapid Fire Battle Cannon.

Let me know, we are both bummed by the lack of a second sprue

EDIT: I say "fight" and I dont really mean fight, but just figure out a plan to split them. We both would rather have what we need from the kit.

you're fine if you go without, the build you have, of the chainsword and gatling cannon is a good combo, and will work as a loyalist Knight Warden. one of the best Knight types out there IMHO.

a carapeice weapon IMHO boosts an IKs points cost up a little too high for my tastes. Although if your friend doesn't want it, snag the peices of the autocannon, you might find it useful if you ever need to fight fliers with your CSM list.

Thats kinda what I was thinking.

I would run it as a Warden in my Admech and Khorne as a Renegade Knight with

Gatling Cannon
Melta (replaces the stubber)
Chainsword
Iccarus AutoGun(khorne doesnt have much AA)

The icarus is a trap, it's not worth its points imo. Plus, as a heretic: build a second gatling cannon out of a forgefiend gun and go to town with 24 shots per turn

I would do this ( i have the forgefiend gun) but I have to use it in my War Convocation as well. Admech cant take the renegade knight and dont have access to the double gatling. Plus I run KDK not chaos and I have little anti air support :(

For the Warcon I'd recommend running a loaded up crusader. See if you can grab one of the missle pods from your buddy.

next time you get a rhino, get a whirlwind instead. the missile launcher could look spar as a carapace weapon. otherwise, consider using the havoc launcher bits off of a defiler if you have one?

Oh thats a great idea. I have the havoc launcher from the chaos rhino kit. Would that be too small?

I honestly don't know. My renegade kit should be arriving either (later today) or tomorrow. But ask to see the carapace missile launcher after your buddy builds it and compare it for yourself.

I print out and laminate the rules that I find for the formations I don't feel like buying. Such as the formations from the Warhammer World exclusive book for KDK.

If he wants the missile pod, you should definitely snag the auto cannon. Anti-flyer is nice. Personally, I think you'd be getting the better end of that deal. And if he gets the gauntlet, you should get the assault cannon arm. Fair is fair, after all.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

A bit but not too much. If you can find a second one and mount them front-and-back they'd make a nice Ironstorm Missile Pod.

The Icarus Autocannons may become more valuable with the new flyer rules leaked for next week's release. Skyfire is going to be a little more rare. Just depends on how many flyers you expect to see in your area.

Just so we're clear:

Skyfire is being removed as a 'native' buff from two types of Flyers: the Bombers and Attack Flyers.
That does not mean that weapons which they possessed that previously did not come with Skyfire but were fluffed as anti-flyer will not be gaining Skyfire or anything of that nature.

Fliers are one of the primary sources of Skyfire (and the only source I'm aware of for my Necrons). Taking that away from flyers means that people will have to find another way to get it, so a weapon like the Twin Icarus Autocannon that have Skyfire will be more valuable. Some Bombers and Attack Fighters will likely have one or more weapons with Skyfire, but based to the rules we've seen leaked so far, only Fighters will be a reliable source of it.

Whatever you do, sink a magnet into the top of the carapace. If you cannot get a carapace weapon now, that will give you some flexibility to add one in the future.

that IS however gonna make life hard for a number of factions though I fear. they'll need to give 3 fliers to each faction.

This; also, if you're having difficulty picking a load-out for your knight then… don't! Put magnets in the upper arms and build as many weapon options as you can then magnetise those too. I'm building mine with thermal cannon + avenger gatling cannon as that's how I want it to look on the shelf, but most of the time it's a bit too expensive points wise, so I'm also building a chainsword so I can swap for one of the guns when I have to. Depending upon the exact combination you may need to substitute a bit or two, but it seems pretty easy, only problem is that my magnets are way too strong, so I'm having to pack them out a bit to weaken the fix or I'll never get the arms off.

Do the same with the carapace weapon and you can pop the Icarus Autocannons on top when you're fielding it next to an army with poor AA options, I only wish the box came with two as the person I'm splitting with wants them (which is fair if I get the gatling cannon I think), fortunately I have a heap of auto cannons I bought for a conversion I never finished, so I may be able to cobble something together, or more likely end up with all of them superglued to my hands (this happens a lot)

I'll be magnetising the top anyway so I can take the missile pod options whenever I feel like I have too many pesky points left to spend.

If you want a simple conversion for the citrus, get a sentinel, the IG light walker and put 2 autocannons on it.

Does the renegade box set allow to make at least one of the 5 variants? The cover only shows two kinds of Knights.

The kit comes with one Crusader/Gallant/Warden kit and one Errant/Paladin kit. You could make 1 from the first kit and one from the second, or two from the second kit. Specifically, you get enough parts to make 2 Rapid-Fire Battle Cannons OR Thermal Cannons, 1 Avenger Gatling Cannon, 2 Reaper Chainswords, 1 Thunderstrike Gauntlet, 2 Heavy Stubbers, 1 Meltagun, 1 Twin Icarus Auto-cannon, and 1 Ironstorm Missile Pod or Stormspear Rocket Pod.

as stated... magnetize everything, 1/2" x 1/4" neodymium magnets grade N42 or better on the body and arms, you will be able to lift the model by them and yet still slide em off. sink the top magnet in it and look for whirlwind bits on ebay or something of the sort (I used the missile launchers for a speeder on one admittedly they are a bit smaller but wysiwyg right)
