So I'm on the fence about starting a demon army and to ignore potential summoning in my budget seems like a mistake. As such, what extra models should a good demon army have on hand or what do tournament players usually bring?

Units that I like:

Pink Horrors - more Warp Dice

Daemonettes - fast offense

Flesh Hounds - very fast unit

Screamers - super mobility if you get Incursion

Plague Drones - fast and resilient unit if you get Incursion


At the very least, stock up on Daemonettes, Horrors and Flesh Hounds as those you can get with Summoning. You don't need a whole bunch, perhaps 1 unit of Horrors, 2 units of Daemonettes and 2x5 Flesh Hounds.

It's also worth having an extra herald and Bloodthirster (or other greter daemon) I prefer Herald of Tzeentch.
If you roll for sacrifice- having a herald come on is nice. If you roll for possession- a Bloodthirster is nice. I can't tell you how many times my LoC has been taken down to 1 wound and then I use possession to bring in a Fresh Bloodthirster to my opponents dismay.
I often ally in a CSM force for a Heldrake, Belakor and some cultists. When my LoC gets sacrifice I will use it to sacrifice a single cultist to bring on a Mastery lvl 2 HoT. That's when I am really hoping to get possesion! Nothing is better than sacrificing a 4pt cultist to get a Herald and then using possesion to turn the Herald into a Bloodthirster!! A 4 pt Bloodthirster!

Some specialist heralds can be handy.

Herald of slaanesh on steed and tzeentch on disk are capable impressive movement.

Keep a portalglyph marker handy even if not in your list.

I also keep one of each greater daemon handy. (My bloodthirster is magged so he can be either of the 3)

+1 for the Tz Herald. I always have a Disc Herald ready. Not only does it provide extra WC, but it can be summoned, then turboboost to objectives. Great for Maelstrom games or Linebreaker.

Other than that, Daemonettes, Fleshhounds and Plague Drones. I personally don't summon Horrors, since you want them at 11 models, so I just field them in my normal list.
