Most Runequest players either play a form of 2.5 or the most recent. 3rd had some nice concepts but added complexity for no reason, however there are rules in 3rd which are individuallt superior to 2nd, which those are vary from person to person. So a lot of people use 2nd with elements of third added in. I certainly do.

2) Dragon Warriors. Disclaimer: I am the current publisher of this game. Still, it's been one of my faves since the mid-1980s. D&D-ish dungeon bash stuff, but with a consciously low-fantasy, more folkloric kind of world. It's a bit like WFRP, if WFRP were set in low-fantasy Anglo-Norman England rather than than low-fantasy Renaissance Germany. Nice simple game system, oodles of atmosphere.

Dragon Warriors had promise but never really took off. They should have produced more material
I still remember how priests have saving throw to be able to cast the got harder and harder. Once the save was failed no more spells for the day. This made priestly magic a risk and different from mages in a fundamental way.
I also remember the intro scenario and the illusory stepping stones which didnt look quite right.
But that is all I do remember as I never got to play it.

Orlanth, you should check out our Dragon Warriors 1.5 edition -- available from DriveThru:
http://www.drivethrurpg.com/browse/pub/3582/Serpent-King-Games
We have all the original material in there, with a few minor balance tweaks (the Assassin has been toned down slightly and rebooted as the Rogue, and the Mystic got a slight boost, for example), new art, and a full-size format.
Plus we're gradually bringing out new material, including (so far) various short adventures and a Players Book that adds a lot of requested options like an archer profession.

In order of preference,
MegaTraveller. A brilliant game, why they decided to introduce the virus and sent the entire system into its own grave escapes me.
Star Wars, WEG. Have the games and all the supplements. Just waiting for the nurglings to grow up so that they can play.
CoC. The only game to ever include dozens of different ways to die, but no way of healing.
Cheers

I'm sort of torn on Star Wars as to edition as they are all quite different. I kind of want to go with the FFG games one but that means finding a place for the proprietary dice. West End has some nostalgia and fun factor but I think in the end I have to go with the Saga Edition.

I used to have MegaTraveller and never played it much and I don't remember much about it. I think there are several reasons why it was unsuccessfull.
There was a confusion about what the product was for. Long term Traveller players had already made many adaptations to the original system, such as substituting Snapshot or Azhanti High Lightning or even Striker for the combat, and enhanced character classes with the Narapoia Press products (Scouts and Assassins, etc.) Similarly, most people I knew were either happy with the existing background or had invented their own.
Overall it looked like an attempt to relaunch the entire game, and people didn't really want that.
During the 1980s GDW also published Twilight 2000, Traveller 2300 AD (another interesting game) and Space 1889. These all competed with each other and with the many other 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation RPGS that came out in the decade, including major titles like Call of Cthulhu, Shadowrun and Paranoia.
Of course people were still happily playing earlier games like RuneQuest. It was a boom time in tabletop RPGs.
In retrospect, GDW probably would have done better to release the MegaTraveller content as more add-on or variant books for original Traveller.
In the UK in particular it can't have helped that GW were starting to turn away from general RPG selling by the end of the decade, having already done a lot of damage to indy high street game shops.

MT was one of those games that did try to reinvent the wheel, granted that there arguably was little reason for it, but it did help that all the rules were then pulled into one source. 3 books are certainly easier to check than the 6? of the LBB The Digest Group Publications did a fantastic job of creating a rolling source of background material and equipment cards. I would disagree with it being unsuccessful, I think that it failed because of the massive change in setting with the Virus and rebellion.
2300 I never liked, the character generation was confusing in places and the source material was all over the place. And the Kafer war felt artificial.
Cheers

Easy question:
1: Exalted First Edition
I have had so much fun with this game. It encourages not only the GM, but the players to paint an image as to what is going on in the story, and it is the only game that gives you mechanical bonuses for it. Plus, super over the top kung-fu action and Last Airbender style elemental manipulation? I am all in.
2: D&D 5th Edition
This game is, compared to previous editions, so mechanics light that you have more time to focus on the story rather than figuring out what stats / skills / feats apply and coming to a numerical modifier before you roll a 1 and feel that you have wasted a ton of time. Don't get me wrong, 3rd & 3.5 were good games in their own right, but 5th is a work of art.
3: BESM 2nd or 3rd edition (your choice)
This game is literally whatever you want it to be. There are other games that have tried this, but BESM (Big Eyes, Small Mouth) pulls it off so effortlessly that it just takes my (and my gaming group's) breath away. I have a soft spot for 2nd edition, as all you need is a rulebook, 2d6, a sheet of notebook paper, and a story to get right into the action. I have yet to play 3rd edition, but I'm working on putting together a game based on the Puella Magi Madoka Magica universe that I hope to GM soon.
4: Rifts
The system is horrible, and I have a personal axe to grind against Palladium, but this was my first RPG.
5: Kobolds Ate my Baby!
ALL HAIL KING TORG!!! Yes, this is a comedy RPG, but sometimes you need something stupid to drink B.E.E.R., eat pretzels, and cause havoc. I even have dry-erase character sheets, and anybody who has played the game knows why.
Edit: Because this computer posted (against my will) before I finished typing...

"I have concluded through careful empirical analysis and much thought that somebody is looking out for me, keeping track of what I think about things, forgiving me when I do less than I ought, giving me strength to shoot for more than I think I am capable of. I believe they know everything that I do and think, and they still love me. And I’ve concluded, after careful consideration, that this person keeping score is me." -Adam Savage |

1- Star Wars WEG.. I held on to it this long.. plus some really good stuff in there, even to this day..
2. Marvel RPG (FASERIP) Classic stuff.. Wish Marvel/Disney would do something with it..
3. Call of Cthulhu - Love the system and Environment, found a spell book.. great.. now burn it..
4.Forgotten Realms - Not really a game system, but I have held on to everything I got for it.. my first RPG world
5. Harn - Harnmaster - Yes that clunky - die if someone breaths on you game; just like the no pulling punches of the game.. and the background is very much not for children..
But I am a system collector so.. Already have a rule with the wife.. all books go with me...

I had it.
I must have thrown it away many years since. I remember it falling to bits and gluing it together with sellotape.
I had several of the dungeons and solo adventures too.

Hm.
Rogue Trader. May not nd the smoothest system, but it introduced me to RPGs.
Tunnels & Trolls. Joyfull system. Joyful creators. Contains the spell "that's a natty beard!" which inflicts a beard upon the victim.
I pledged to the Kickstarter recently for some art, and was very happy.
Vampire the Masquerade. I've never played it, but I spent weeks reading the books and source material when I first got my hands on it.
DC Heroes. Actually a very clever system hidden under there.
Stuck on the fifth.
I playtested the one ring, I'm pretty surprised to see it feature in a few lists here. Guessing they greatly improved upon it.

I enjoyed the original Palladium, but it was a very adult system, definitely should of had an 18 cert on it.
Champions was an enjoyable system (if I remember the name right) I had a character with an eighteen dice shock attack based on smell. He was called Capt Fishy, yes he also had a cutlass and a flintlock pistol.
Hellbomb burst from T&T was a firm favourite in our group. Instantly disintegrating 10 cubic feet sounds like a waste until we discovered that we decided the dimensions of the cube.

My main gripe with the newer versions of palladium, is that they started to confuse the issue on how people took damage. Old P only had one set of hps, New P has stun points, mega hps, normal hps, and I got fed up trying to keep track of what hurts who and to what extent, who was immune and all the rest.
YMMV.
