Shas'la with Pulse Carbine




Read a great article recently about how Eldar have the best codex for unit quality. Everything is good and has a role to play. Looking to do that for other dexes. Main dex is Tau so here we go:

Tau - Looking to get away from the suits - give more units a chance to make it onto the field

- Marker lights can reduce cover by 1 per token expended instead of using 2 to ignore cover

- Remodel Hammerheads to have 2 barrels - fire 2 rail shells or 2 submuntions +++Wouldn't be hard, just get rid of the hatch and have the 2 guns mirror each other.
--- Ion Cannon - Changes - Std shot - Change to heavy 4 - Overchage shot - 2 large blasts and removes gets hot
--- Remove cost for Submunitions round, no added cost to switch to Ion Cannon,
--- Allow upgrade of the rail gun to "Overcharged" fire mode for 25pts extra
--- Increases Hammerhead base cost to 175

- Rail weapons gain Armorbane, a new rule - "Mass Driver" - add +1 to vehicle damage table and if the strength of the railgun is higher than the targets toughness each hit causes 2 wounds
-- Rail weapons would be --
Sniper Rail Rifles - 48" Str 6 AP1 - Heavy 1, Precision Shots, Armorbane and Mass Driver
Twin-Linked Heavy Rail Rifles - 60" Str 8 AP 1 - Heavy 1, Armorbane and Mass Driver
Rail Gun
- Volley Fire - 72" Str 10 AP 1 - Heavy 2, Armorbane and Mass Driver
- Submunitions - 60" Str 6 AP 3 - Large Blast 2, Shred
- Overcharged - 120" Str D AP 1 - Destroyer 1, Armorbane and Mass Driver

- Stealth teams to purchase marker lights and target locks for all models - like that shas'vre - 5pts
- Stealth teams new weapon - Rail Sniper rifles - Str 6 AP1 - Heavy 1, Precision Shots, Armorbane and Mass Driver - costs 15pts per model +++To unlock Stealth Sniper teams, the team must have a Shas'vre and can only have 3 models

- Pathfinders - are 10ppm - shas'ui costs 15pts
--- Ion Rifle pathfinders are 15ppm down from 21/26
--- Rail Rifle removed

- Allow Devilfish to be upgraded with the FW hammerhead turrets at a cost of losing half their transport capacity & the cost of the turret.

- Allow Coldstar Commanders to take signature systems

- Update Vespid to cost 30pts each - 35 for strain leader
--- Neutron blaster to Str 4 AP 3 Assault 2
--- Stats to WS 4, Str 4 W2, A2, 3+ - Strain leaders have 3 attacks base
--- All vespid have claws (2 CC weapons) - Str user, AP 5, Melee, Rending
--- Can be updated to have Defensive and assault grenades for 5pts per model and can be upgraded to have haywire grenades for 2pts per model

- Update Kroot to 10pts each - 15 pts for shaper - 8pts per hound - Riders stays the same
--- Kroot stats - S4, T4, I4,
--- Hound stats - WS5, S4, T4, Ld7 Save 6+
--- Rider stats - T5, I4, Save 4+
--- Hounds have claws (2 CC weapons) profiel - Str user Ap 5, shred
--- Riders to have smash rule
--- Shapers give the squad accute senses and relentless
--- Can be updated to have Defensive and assault grenades for 5pts per model and can be upgraded to have haywire grenades for 2pts per model

I really don't like this. Tau do not need these kinds of buffs. None of these units are bad, its just that the other units are better.

Ahahahaha! C'mon dude, Tau are in no way hurting right now.

How about instead of buffing an army that's only sitting below Muhreens & gakking Eldar, we give some help to those who really need it, like say, Tyranids, Orks, Dark Eldar, Grey Knights, Blood Angels, etc...

I know people enjoy their punching bags and effortless auto-wins, but some of us would occasionally like to put up a semblance of a fight.

So essentially, you want to add armourbane to every rail weapon and allow more of them to be taken?

Tau are in no way struggling at all.
As said, the "bad units" in the book are just over shadowed by the amazing ones.
They are by no means bad units when compared to alot of stuff though.


Essentially all I see here is buffs added to weak spots in the army.
Which is pretty much removing all balance.

Stealth teams by these rules would be some of the best tank hunters out there, when they came from a basic anti-infantry role.

Ever play some HoR Killteam against Vespid? Those buggers are nasty. Vespid could cost a little less, but they do fill a role in the Tau army.

When you've played Kill Team against Destroyers, you learn that little beats them. I cannot imagine Vespid being THAT much an issue.

On top of that, that's Kill Team. What about regular games?

They are a very good "I'm in your backfield" bully unit. My buddy uses them against Devastators or to hunt down a command squad.

Meh, sure those units are mediocre, even awful by Tau standards, but I'll maybe shed a tear or three for them when they're on the level that say, Thousand Sons, Warptalons & Mutilators are on...

Just because those units are godawful doesn't mean the auxiliary units of the Tau can't use a little tweaking.

Hey, let's add a bunch of rules that DO NOTHING TO DESTROYER WEAPONS.

Doesn't address the 'why take ion rifles at all' issue.

Devilfish are perfectly acceptable vehicles as-is.

So you want Tau to have Genestealer-level CC units. Except you want them to have an AP2 gun, assault grenades and a jump pack? Holy god, man. Do you even read what you write?
