Hi!

I have a person I play against quite often who is known to completely wreck house using Tau Monsterous creatures (Forgeworld models and ect) and I was wondering if there was any way to really 'counter' them or stand a chance as imperial guard.
The two games I've played with him have been complete table-wipes, usually by turn 3-4. I'm hoping to try and even the playing field against all the Tau MCs (Including the tau'nar, Y'vahra, and Tetras)
Usually the lists are 2 1000 pt games (two V two matches) and I will be facing him and a daemons player with me (imperial guard) and Space Wolves (who said he has given up because we've played the Tau player 3 times. On the same team, and is going to bring a fun list which I am okay with)

Play bigger games, so you have more options to counter the hard stuff in his list. At small point levels, the game becomes skewed in favor of single high point models.

I don't know yet, the match is in a week (we play on thursdays) but he usually brings a bunch of Monstrous creatures, I'm just looking for general tips and a wide counter to his usual list which is a lot of Battle Suits and Tetras.

I don't think you're reasonably going to be able to beat a tau list spamming the more broken stuff that they can bring, but if there's a chance, spamming plasma would be how I'd do it.

I don't know about your model collection, but since forgeworld is allowed, look into getting a command vanquisher with beast hunter shells and co-ax heavy stubber. Should run you around 200 points, but Str 8 instant death AP2 blasts make mosterous creatures sad.

If he's bringing a Tau'nar to a 1k game thought, best to just punch him in the dick because that's just not cricket if you actually want a fun game.

Alternatively, don't play guard, trick out an ultramarine skyhammer and go to town on him with all the grav you can muster.

+1
weight of fire. Tau MCs & GMCs are toughness 6, meaning that your lasguns can damage them. (and I killed plenty of MCs in my time with lasguns). Unfortunately, it requires rethinking your list. For instance, Combined Infantry Squads with a Vox Caster and a CCS with Creed are a good starting point, with Vendettas or punishers to taste.

No point bringing any chimeras they will just blown up.

You will need a big balls of fearless guard blobs with some las cannons.

Play objectives and shoot down the MC with weight of fire.

Psychic Shriek and similar powers are excellent against monstrous and gargantuan creatures and generally does quite a number on Tau battle suits due to their middling leadership. I think Space Wolves had access to Telepathy on their Rune Preists and the Guard can get it from the Astropath. Admittedly, keeping the psykers alive might be a challenge, but Tau aren't particularly good at stopping psychic powers since they generally don't have very many dice to draw from.

Apart from that, Destroyer Weapons make a mockery of most monsters and similar multi-wound models, though apart from Eldar distort weapons Strength D tends to be fairly expensive and rare.

Do you know what sort of list the daemon player likes to run?

Last week he brought a khorne knight, and 2 murder pacts (I think that's what they were called, 8 hounds and 3 bikes each) and a Dthirster in a 2v1 (me with 2000 pts, 1 friend joined in and added 500, then he had 1500 and the other player had 1000) he usually plays more fair lists, which is why I am not really worried about facing him and more concerned with dealing with the Tau.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and I luckily had a friend who had the rules for Forgeworld imperial armor, so instead i'm bringing; 2 Tank commanders with artificer hulls and beast hunter shells, 2 battle tanks, 1 punisher, and 2 armored sentinels with multilasers (just for fun)
