No. Its a cool concept and could of been interesting but it seems to be to be poorly implemented and most of the flyers where not designed with this type of system in mind. Also this basically nerfs my Dakkajets for the role I bought them for which is air to ground fire support.

I might get it at some point, if only for the rules for the new SM flyer. I'm a bit wary of spending $58 on what basically amounts to rules for 1 flyer for 1 of my armies (I have no interest in the flying phase, or the other flyers that are in the book)

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

I don't know I am on the fence about getting the book. I like flyers but it seems the more rules and stuff we get for them maybe they should just create a separate game for them like they had for battlefleet gothic.
Also does anyone know when 8th edition is suppose to drop?

lmao true but that is another game to invest in and you are already invested in 40k right? Besides I think it would be fun to dog fight 40k ships, just kinda wish it was its own separate game. I think in my opinion adding to much to a game will make it to difficult to play and deter people from wanting to join.

Technically. It does not appear to have the stats for the weapons, which sucks. But yeah, no need for the book.

There is an actual 'Air War' part of the DFS (sofas half price!) which supports all flyer battles within the 40k rule set with no sudden death effect, and flyer-friendly deployments.
Running a Marauder Destroyer in that would actually be a lot of fun...

So I finally got a working copy of the book and I'm really liking it, the dogfighting phase is clunky but the ability to engage with units in reserve is fantastic, I only wish it was less rock/paper/scissors like.
The Air war mission seems like great fun for a club game, that I intend to set up as soon as I can.
Crowning aspects of the book however is the break turns and those attack patterns are just juicy, I may in fact be able to run some flyers in my Tau heavy meta for once!

The HYMP Broadsides will come for you and your airplanes. It will make the red wedding look like a picnic. Don't play into their hands. Though a sudden strike without them being prepared could work if you don't tell them your going in on an air based build.

I don't know, the ability to actually get some invulnerable saves using attack patterns means I might not be destroyed the turn I come on due to ignores cover interceptor/skyfire, could interesting at least? ...besides, anything I can take that's not warpsiders/ scatterbikes or Wraithknights is a good thing right?

I haven't played 40k since 7th came out and I haven't given GW a penny since, switching to x-wing means I spend less.
I still have my armies but they sit in a case waiting for a decent edition.
And we had a separate game in aeronautica and it was awful.

Oh ok ok cool beans. I started investing in Star Wars Armada cause I want to play fleet battles luck me they just came out with the pc game Battlefleet Gothic. But I still think this new game might be fun.
As a Tau and Dark Eldar player there is ZERO reason for me too. Even my third fav faction Necrons would see no use from this.
Well maybe if this flyer game really takes off they might introduce more flyers from other races...or that could be wishful thinking on my part.

oh so everyone is just following a pattern then oh ok. I just started the game so I am still fairly new.

With the renewed push of their standalone box games, they've got plenty of other options to generate that boost.

I disagree. I thought it was a great game that suffered from lack of advertising and availability. It didn't have the depth of some dogfighting games (though lots more than this DftS tripe), but it was better suited to playing with larger squadrons of around 5-10 aircraft per side.

Nearly every army has some form of a flyer (sorry Tyranids and Chaos Daemons). So most armies benefit. Though, unlike the Psychic Phase, this can't be resolved fairly fast, though you can elect to ignore it with a roll off.

I've already gotten it and I thinks it's added quite a bit that's good, speaking about orks that is. Also contrary to some opinions floating around I think the blastajet is amazing.
I don't know what the rules are to point you guys to another thread, but I wrote a detailed write up in the general discussion of you haven't already looked.
If for no one else, I think it helps orks.

Won't buy it. My gaming group won't even bother to give it a look, I think. The competitive scene around here doesn't look too impressed either.
Dissatisfaction with GW's handling of rules has got to a point that even if it gets included in a new edition's rulebook, people may ignore it altogether.

Progress is like a herd of pigs: everybody is interested in the produced benefits, but nobody wants to deal with all the resulting gak.
