The unlikely has finally happened: I have no desire to keep playing my favorite faction. At least not as they currently exist anyways.

Thing is that I still really want to play still but after exclusively playing Sisters since 5th starting with C:WH I'm lost on where to go from here. About all I know is I want to avoid constant mirror matches with Marines. Suggestions?

I think that your avatar says it all! Sad to hear. (take it you don't want to proxy your Sisters?)

What do you enjoy in a game of 40k - maybe build your next army around that - a horde army would be the antithesis of Sisters if you are looking for a change

I usually pick bad guys that way I never have to figure out WHY the two armies are fighting.

Nothing gets on my nerves quite as much as "Combat Practice" or "Training Missions" being the excuse for why two armies are duking it out.

Can I ask, are you shelving them as a tournament list? I don't see anything stopping you from playing an older edition of the game if you have players willing to do so.

I stopped playing 40K years ago and am only now entering the fray again, playing a modified 2nd edition.

There would be maybe one person interested on playing homebrew or non-standard 40k in my area so an all around shelving of them for now.

And maybe a horde Army is the right way to go. I regularly suggest that for new players since you can be gak at painting and they're dirt cheap online (plus you get used to losing models which makes keeping a cool head with more elite armies easier).

Might I suggest Orks of Daemons then?

Orks are pure fun, and have the most scope for kitbashing/converting alongside Chaos. They're not exactly competitive in any way, but it's pretty much impossible to not have fun in games featuring the green boyz.

Daemons on the other hand trade out wacky gadgetry & shooting, for insane speed, general choppiness and psychic dominance - a phase that Sisters pretty much ignored outright, so you'll get to experience something completely new in that regard.
While they're beginning to show their age somewhat, the CotW book has breathed some new life into them, and there's multiple playstyles available, on top of the whole mono-God themed options. (heck, the new Warlord Traits, Psychic lores & especially the new God-specific Artifacts are amazing!)
You also pretty much forgo vehicles entirely, (the Soul Grinder + Chariots are it), which might offer a nice change depending on how many Rhinos/Immolators & Exorcists you might have used with the Sisters.

The strangest game I had in a while was a Warzone Fenris "Grand Cavalcade": formation based list it just dawned you in daemon chariots. It wasn't that good but it sure was a challenging to play against and really different. These sorts of formations make it possible to play a really extreme army that will almost never see a single mirror match.

If you go horde then renegades vrags with the 2+ and we are back infantry units are also really interesting

It's a shame sisters get a half hearted codex but tau get buffed, it's what happens when accounts run things.

Never occurs to them they don't sell because they have never gotten plastic infantry and are £50 a squad.

My Sisters now only make appearances in games of Dark Heresy, when I need members of the Order of the Argent Blade to be doing something.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

Can't believe you still played them and I played greenwing Dark Angels in 6th ed ahah.

I wanted to start an army but drop it at the start lf 6th there was just no point even trying. Probably did the right thing too since there is now about what less than 10-15 model left on GW.com for SoB.

Maybe one day they will release plastic sister and release a codex to go along with it. :(

I love the sisters and I do feel they get a real kick while they are down with their current "codex"

While they are expensive and exclusive, I do feel it makes them stand out alot as I rarely run into SoB players.

If you feel like a change and want a more numerous army, I'd avoid Orks as suggested.
This is due to the state of their book at the moment.

Daemons might be a better bet as they have plenty of viable options for getting things done.

Just don't sell your sisters as I'm sure it's a decision on would regret in time.

More unbelievable is the fact the last game I played with them was against a Necron Decurion and I won (two objectives to one) with only 4 models on the table while he still had most of his army.

While it was nice to walk away proving superior tactics beat a superior Dex I get tired of playing with the constant threat of being tabled.

Chaos cults could be interesting. Guess you mean either the Vraks campaign stuff or the Tyrant Legion (which could make for a decent Count as Word Header's list with the WB leading the cyclists).

30k isn't impossible but a lot of folks don't really want to deal with the potential headache since they aren't familiar with the rules.

I play in a fairly conservative environment when it comes to a lot of things.

Never selling my Sister's. Even if they get squatted.

I really feel GW has missed a chance to put out a chaos equiv to Sisters. Not Sisters but something that fills that elite human role that Sisters do with blessings of their patron gods. Basically a Scions/Sisters equiv in terms of stats.

Try anything other than Marines (common), Eldar (Common, OP and hard to get games). or orks (unsupported, they'l go the way of the sisters soon).

I would consider necrons or tyranids, as they're relatively interesting. necrons is also really strong, but has a very boring paint scheme. Tyranids are the most interesting, but has one of the weakest codex.

Maybe consider another game? If you don't play Eldar or Marines in 40k, you'll have a bad fate either way. Warmahordes is like Mt:G the boardgame. X-wing has one of the most skill-based and balanced rulesets ever. Infinity is probably the best game for skirmishes. Open your mind, and you might be rewarded richly...

That statement seems to highlight 40k being in a bit of a state.
My Chaos armies have not seen the light of day for years.
I love the sisters models but not enough to play them and cost was prohibitive, not sure if used they are inexpensive.

OP, find your fun wherever that may take you.
Good luck.

If you still really want to play, but don't want to get stuck in the same rut as Sisters, might look at Eldar. They're powerful, have both male and female models, and pretty much have never been garbage and almost always at the top of the power heap. If your meta isn't filled with Eldar already, that would be my suggestion.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

40k is about the only tabletop wargame that scratches my hobbiest itch right so no other game for me thanks.

Honestly I'm not a huge fan of the current Cron book. It's very fluffy but too strong for the rest of the meta and I don't like playing too easy (I mean I did play Sisters for around 6-7 years straight).

That said I lost my love for Nids after the 4th Ed codex went away. They just don't feel like the endlessly mutating biological swarm they used too.

Orks are something I'm a little interested in but speaking from experience I get WAY too into weathing and battle damage with them and will never finish painting them.

Something heretical may be best afterall.

I really don't know. When I found Sisters I found THE Army for me. Now that I can't be bothered taking them out of the case to play it feels like I'm trying to settle for an exgirlfriend's less attractive/interesting cousin. Sure if may be fun but it's never quite the same.

EDIT: I just learned IA13 can let me make Chaos Scions. My little black heart is happy.

Seriously, this may be the best news I've seen in a while.

I was just thinking fluff wise, to be honest, but IA13 is probably your best bet.

My Chaos Cult actually uses standard Chaos Marine rules. I use Aspiring Sorcerers as my cultists (S/T4? personal enhancement magic), then the majority of my army is 'armour wraiths', daemons bound into suits of armour (yes, rubric marine stats) and non-psychic cultists (obviously, CSM cultists).

I had to wrangle my fluff a bit to equip them with power armour (they massacred a Sororitas convent and use it as their base now) though. ^^;

My Warpsmith (Scrolls of Magnus);

Have you though about using your sisters minis with other rules? Like fielding them as black templar? You can keep a lot of the flavor, with some more robust mechanics. A lot of the SoB minis have direct analogs in the marine dex.

I thought about it and while running them as Salamanders or Black Templar could be interesting frankly I hate the boringness of Marine on Marine statline skirmish games. I want some flavor in there instead.
