Subject: Kit Bashing in AoS - Tough?

As a 40k Space Marine player I'm finding kit bashing body parts a whole lot tougher than the typical Space Marine sprues setup of legs, chest, arms. I was hoping to use 5 of my Blood Warriors legs to make 5 Skullreapers from my Wrathmongers set, but after putting the Stormcast Eternals together from the starter set I'm starting to think that it may not even be worth it to try unless I want to be out 5 Blood Warriors if the kit-bash goes south.
Do you guys think this is by design? Are these issues that were present in Fantasy, or did Fantasy models use the 40k sprue setup?

Starter sets are harder to convert as the way they are molded and assembled is a tad goofy. Get the actual stormcast models or bloodwarrior models not from the starter and you'll find they are put together more traditionally which is better for the average kit basher and converter.

Pretty much this. Either way I think Skullreapers are a bit bigger than Blood Warriors so there may be an issue to work around there.

My GW manager made an amazing Stormcast kit bash based on the Knight... Vexillor? err the banner bearer guy, and swapped out the arms for the prosecutors armed with round shields and javelins, and then a head swap with a liberator prime. Looked amazing, but you will see lots of modern GW kits are now cut in ways that make kit bashing harder (a torso and a leg being a single piece for example.)
If you want a good Kitbashing army I recommend the Empire/Freeguild. I mix and match bits from my kits constantly.

Remember most of the moulds are set up now for efficiency thanks to CAD designing rather than for easy of moulding and limitations of the technology as they used to be.
The off shoot of this is that you have less potential for spares and simple conversions unless those are included by intention.
Most models today are designed to have overlaps and things to make them look better by hiding seems and the like, this makes the model look better when assembled "as intended" but often makes it harder for the more simple conversions.

On the plus side you will have wonderful stock models but if you want to convert you will need some sculpting skills.
