Have yet to play this, but it looks fun. Is it worth picking up? Heard varying reports of 'It's great' and 'It sucks'

I'm curious as well and I'm only interested in the single player mode. Online doesn't interest me at all

Having played the online beta. It definitely feels DOOM. It's got the 90s DARQUE aesthetic, and the gore. OH THE GORE. My first action in that game was a melee kill that consisted of me ripping a dude's head off.

If you want to play a DOOM style shootemup, it's good. If you expect anything else from it, please message me. As I have a clock to sell you. It's big and is on a tower. You won't be able to take it home, but it'll be yours.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

Asterisk: All the reviews I've seen of the single player have been positive, the multiplayer reviews have been a lot more mixed.

They evidently tried to blend the styles of Quake 3 Arena and Halo for the MP aspect, and it's questionable if they succeeded or if that was even a good idea to attempt, but personally I'm only fussed for the single player so I'll probably grab this when it goes on sale(on PC).

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

Get it on PC, mouse and keyboard is better for aiming in FPS.

While Mouse and Keyboard are definitely better, at least they managed a decent framerate on console for this one. So not quite as bad as some other games in that respect.

I bought it yesterday and I really like it. It plays a lot like the old Doom games. It is very fast paced and very gory! The campaign mode is really good and with the Snapmap feature you can play the single player game for an indefinite amount of time.

Basically with this feature you can create your own maps or play maps developed by other players. No matter what system the map was created on, it is uploaded to a server and can be downloaded on a different system. Basically if someone creates a map on their PC I can still play it on my PS4. In addition you can unlock new versions of classic maps.

Your armor and weapons are upgradeable too. Last night I found a weapon upgrade drone and it gave me a choice of either making a charge that fires a 3 shot burst, or a charge that fires an arcing explosive from my shotgun.

Not only that, but you retain your upgraded weapons, armor, and abilities even if you go back to earlier stages. Getting a certain movement booster midway through the game, for example, will help you find secrets in the earlier levels.

I still can't access the Snapmaps for some reason. Is that coming in a later update?

Played a bit of this last night on PC.
Quite enjoyed it - definite homage to the old quake/unreal tourney days.
Engine is very nice and gfx top notch. Quite a polished UI with lots of logs to read for background and abilities to unlock.
Not far into it but the AI seems ok, nothing special mind.

Its Doom, run around with meaty guns blowing gak up. ~If thats not what you're looking for than this wont sell you. But if you want a very good shooty engine game, this might be it.

I don't think it's worth it on console, combat in this game is a lot faster then your average shooter and I expect there to be problems with a controller.

I disagree, been playing both on PC and Ps4, and both preform just as good. No problem playing on my Ps4

Do you like old school shooters? If so, Doom's worth picking up - if not at its current $80 price tag, then eventually.

I've been watching a let's play and it looks amazing. Very polished, lots of little touches that showed the developers really cared about this game too.

Not to mention it's extremely fast paced and very well done in level design it seems. I've watched people play who get lost all the time who would just be tearing through a level without getting stuck once, the game just naturally hinted at where to go. Plus the game has a lot of vertical movement and options in paths with all the secrets.

If I had anything that could run it I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Absolutely loving Doom. Its just darn fun.
Sure its formulaic in terms of what actually happens in each level (Demon incursion, find a keycard, power up a reactor, destroy the Demon nests) but boy is it done well.
Level design whilst not very complicated in terms of getting lost or having alternate paths to take, is intricate when you get to battle areas (one absolutely terrific fight in a level with huge open containers and a central ramp/platform).
Its very balanced too (Im on medium diff), I've died a few times in tough fights but nothing frustrating or that stops you coming back for another go.
The mechanic of gore killing demons works really well too, it means you can always get some health back in a tight fight and never feel helpless when youve picked up all the health kits in an area.
The weapon upgrade mechanic is great, by level 5 you do have most of the main weapons unlocked but with each having two different upgrade modes and 3-4 options under each upgrade it keeps things interesting and dynamic.
Polish and overall touches are great too - voice acting, the plot is actually very cool, data log entries and background info all shine. It feels like there is an actual story to the game rather than wave after wave of pewpews.
A nice mix between "real world" levels and trips to the Demon areas keep things fresh and the mini games where you can unlock upgrades via timed sub missions break it up nicely.
And the engine is delicious, it just glides along no matter what.
Top notch fun so far.

I just finished it and the ending was amazing and left it open for another one. I especially liked how during the credits they re made the classic doom cover

Got it on the Xbox one with my wife's new headphones three days ago, wasn't sure it was going to be much after the disappointment of 3.. but damn I'm loving it.

Feels like the original Doom games but in with modern graphics, and with a fun upgrade system for weapons.. Excellent game so far.

Picked it up at Redbox for a couple days. Ehhh. Was fun, gorey, fast, but the fact you can't aim bugged the crap out of me. Also, the main pistol sucked and I seemed to run out of ammo really fast.

Doom is a throwback to an older sort of FPS, where ironsights aiming was merely one of many possible options for RMB alternate fire. Ironsights aiming is more at home in a game where you slow your movement and pick your enemies off at range, while Doom is a game that encourages you to get up close and personal with the enemy so you can beat them to death with their own skull.

Only girly men and cowards needs to aim! Much better to soak the fiends of hell in vast quantities of ammo

were you using your chainsaw much? It exists pretty much solely as a way to replenish ammo
