Is it just me or do Ork flyers almost seem to be the most realistic looking flyers in the game? What do you think? What is the most realistic looking flyer in 40k to you?
Am I delusional here?

You are not delusional.
i think they did so as an ironic joke or something
FW certainly made a few that looks aerodynamically sound though.

The Eldar ones aren’t bad. Crimson Hunter/Wraithfighter at least. They are aerodynamic, have ample control surfaces, and decent engines. Look they they could stay in the air without heavy use of anti-grav handhavium. Unlike the marine flyers...

It's a joke we pass around at my FLGS. They look similar to WWII planes me, which is fitting I guess. They're also the coolest-looking flyers so that fits as well. A lot of the space marine ones just look silly.

Honestly, I'd have to go with a few of the IN ones. The Vendetta/Valk/Vulture all seem like plausible VTOL aircraft with the what-have-you's in the wings working when hovering, while the wing design isn't overly far fetched with a plausible tail boom.
The Lightning and Thunderbolt would fit as well, seeing as they're reminiscent of existing designs. The Avenger is a bit more of a departure, but the corsair had bent wing just like it.
The Eldar/Dark Eldar flyers also look pretty sensible.

The Ork flyers look like slapdash MiG-15s or F-86s. Outside of that, I'd say the closest realistic looking flyer would be the Valkyrie/Vendetta, which looks closer to a Mi-24 Hind than a jet, although they're a bit short and stubby to be aerodynamic. The Edlar/DE flyers certainly look nice, but I think them being so short would result in a bad center of gravity and poor aerodynamics in flight.

Tau Barracuda is quite aircraft-y, albeit that nose cannon creates some respectable air resistance.
Space Wolves flyers... I can't even.

The Necron flyers at least don’t even pretend to abide by the laws of physics. They are alien space ships, in the same vein as flying saucers.
It’s the birds that look like they are trying to play by the same rules we do in the modern day, but failing epicly, that get the scorn here.
Once I stopped thinking of the SM flyers as jets/planes and more as helicopter gunships they got much better in my eyes. And not some sleek, refined gunship. More like a brutal piece of soviet hardware. They still need a lot of handwaving to keep in the sky, but a lot less then a jet fighter would.

Like the necrons, the SW flyer isn’t even pretending to use physics. It is literally a flying brick. All anti-grav and handvavium. DA looks like it has a chance of staying airborne.
It’s the uncanny valley of ones that are trying to look like flyers, but really aren’t that fall flat. IMHO

Its actually easier to believe that the SW and Necron fliers do in fact fly because they don't resemble any sort of aircraft. You just go with the flow, and know that there is some sort of strong sci-fi / fantasy magic/techno force keeping them in the air.
But when it looks like it might be a plane. and should behave like a plane, but obviously can't work like a normal aircraft, that's actually when the illusion breaks.
