DUNGEON CRUSADE is a new Kickstarter which is absolutely immense, incredible, and awesome!!!! It's a open-world dungeon crawler board game with tons and tons of very high quality content!! This may indeed end up being one of the best dungeon crawler board games ever made!!
I am backing this game!!
Just check out the Kickstarter page, the game speaks for itself!! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/357343358/dungeon-crusade-book-i-genesis-of-evil?ref=nav_search

Yeah, totally.
Looks quite okay on first glance, but the pricetag doesn't match the content imo. Cardboard standees instead of miniatures for 95 USD? No, thanks.

There does seem to be a lot in it though.
I'm probably not backing but I do like the idea of a solo friendly and utterly huge dungeon crawler I can just buy the models I want for. If this reaches retail I would be very interested.

Yeah, no joke. There's the "main" dungeon crawler game, a prequel overworld adventure game where loot/experience carries over to the main game, and then three additional mini games you can play back in town.
Sadly it doesn't come with miniatures though, just cardboard standees. The minis shown in pics are Reaper minis.

Yeah that jumped out at me too, its a little irking to show stuff that explicitly won't be in the game.

I didn't read it all, just looked at the pictures, but I think it looks cool overall on one hand, and on the other it looks like there's just way too much going on and things to keep track of that would just bog down the game and make it drag on forever. I think I would have preferred something more like Warhammer Quest or Dungeon Saga style board tiles, or at least big squares like Zombicide.

I always respect ambition in design, and man... this seems to be over-flowing with ambition.
That said, I hate fake-post, viral marketing, and an air of disingenuity.
Plus I don't think I have the patience to play four games, every time I want to play one. :-p

Yeah.. I'll pass. With the scope of this, you might as well be playing D&D or just about any other fantasy game. The point of a board game seems a bit lost here and it swims over to full-fledged RPG that wants to be confined by the constraints inherent to a board game. Plus, I'm in the crowd that's annoyed that they're choosing to misrepresent the contents with Reaper miniatures when the actual game comes with standees. For a $95 price tag.. NO minis? ...PLUS a $70k funding goal?
Nope.

Well im interested. I'll be keeping an eye on this. Alot of content here, If it plays like a full fledged RPG thats also great news, our DM likes a break from time to time! Not having miniatures is not a deal breaker to me. Everything has miniatures these days, im swimming in more miniatures than I will ever need...
The fact you have made available the rules for review and are providing videos is a huge plus as well.

In doing my own research on board games and stuff, and seeing just how much stuff is included here, the $70k funding goal looks accurate to me. They probably also need to order lot more copies than the minimum, to be able to get the printing costs down to get a retail price people would be willing to pay.

I didn't see sock puppets. I don't understand.. Can you explain this?
Why are miniatures so important? Does the quality of time/money spent on miniatures dictate how good a board game is now a days?

Someone made a Dakka account, not to contribute, but to do drive-by-marketing, while pretending to be a member of the community. They essentially assume we're idiots and can be duped just that easily if they tell us how "super awesome eleven exclamation points!!!!!!!!!!!" their game is.

It's not that the miniatures are so important necessarily so much as they would at least justify the cost. I understand that the game is "full of features" that requires extra printing and whatnot. To me though, that reads as "bloated and full of things that probably could've been add-ons".
Barring the sock-puppeting and miniatures thing consider the following:
A core game that is basically JUST the exploration/hack and slash bit.
Expand on that with all that additional treasure, magic, side quests, gambling house, and other stuff. To me.. those things are not features so much as odd extras that don't capture my interest. Why would I play a character playing a card game that I don't like in real life in an imaginary game that has more to do with adventuring than gambling.. I mean.. if the game were called Casino Hack'N'Slash or Adventurers of the Atlantic City Strip.. then sure.. I would understand.
Anyway.. all I'm saying is, this game looks bloated and costs more than I would ever spend on a board game that didn't come loaded down with things that had uses outside of that boardgame (like most CMoN etc games)

Wow, this is the kind of super geeky game, with way too much going on, that I can't resist. Will be hard to not back this one.
Agreed though that the sock puppeting is lame.

fwiw, Here's the previous incarnation of DC: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/527046315/dungeon-crusade
As a rule of thumb, I'll pass on any "First Created" project. I'm looking for proof of business experience, either existing retail product, or previous KS experience.
Also, the game has (bleah) skill checks. Pretty much every RPG and dungeoncrawler has 'em.
Also note the "Placeholder art being shown" on the photos.
At 40K out of the 70K goal, it looks like the game will get funded, so I hope the project works out.

Hello guys, my Name is David Lockwood and I am the Project Manager on Dungeon Crusade.
I just made this account to make this post. Viper is NOT affiliated with us in any way shape or form. He caused a similar sensation over on BGG, where words like "shill" popped up.
He is not part of our team, we did not pay him or anyone else to go into various forums and talk about our game. I appreciate his enthusiasm here... but it is obviously reflecting us in a negative light. I work in the video game industry and have seen what happens when video game companies have tried those sort of shenanigans... it doesn't end well.
Just wanted to pop in here and clear that up. Thanks for the benefit of the doubt though.
David
EDIT
Honestly looking at his other posts on other various forums... I almost want to say he KNOWS what he is doing makes us look bad.... but I can't understand why? Just the paranoia talking here I suspect.

I'm not a fan of cardboard cutouts for any boardgame. Miniatures, even bad ones, are better visually, IMO.
They also tend to be more durable... Cardboard standees get worn and bent. Clip bases get broken. Miniatures are forever

If you look at his thread creation, he has created 3, and the other two have been locked, both for the Dark Souls KS and both very similar in tone, so if he is doing it with malicious intent, he's not doing it solely to this project.

Point: If I'm going to pay someone to promote my game it would be way less obvious. I also wouldn't be all like:
"Hey go advertise my game, which doesn't have minis, on a forum board with miniature enthusiast...."
Viper still confounds me however...

This. 3-D sculpted miniatures make a huge difference in the perception of a game.
If they can't afford sculpting, tooling and production of miniatures (and I'm pretty sure they can't), how would 2-D meeples strike you?

I think it's brilliant to do cardboard standees if you have miniatures in mind down the road - I had just posted yesterday I wish GW would try that to cut down on the price of their games (that was how the original Talisman was done, after all).
However, this game seems a little too ambitious - trying to be too much at once. I would have preferred to see a smaller, Warhammer Quest/Descent like dungeon-building with an overland map (not as a "pregame" thing) - sort of like Descent's campaign set. Basically a smaller core set with add-ons to suit rather than attempting to pack it all in one box all at once.
