The way they've described how the combat works and how the similarities between the monster and hero cards 'stats', I'd say monsters do attack. Some monsters can even carry droppable random loot, and if it's loot they can use, it boosts their stats.
Sounds like they took the base mechanics of Zombicide and have added layers to it.
Thanks for the responses everyone.
Let's change the question up a bit and ask, what do you think the best dungeon crawler is with a campaign/leveling system?
Just want to highly recommend avoiding Myth- the rules are really clunky, there are a lot of assumptions, "easily gamed" doesn't even begin to describe the AI system, and the monster/campaign generation is really weak.
It's like AOS's lack of points system, where it feels like they're selling an incomplete game as a "sandbox"

I backed the kickstarter, and just trying to play the game with the rulebook made my head spin. I heard they rewrote the basic rules, but I eventually sold the whole lot for a loss.
I'm starting to regret not backing Dungeon Saga, which sounds like a really fun game!
Surely, you'll want to throw your money at this guy so he can see his dream of publishing a sprawling, Synnibarian kitchen sink dungeon crawl get funded, right?

I could see myself, after a few beers, getting talked into backing that for hundred bucks.
I wonder what the odds on that game actually delivering is? 40%?
I think it's <<10% chance of delivery. The dude has to produce what looks to be a ridiculous amount of paper, print it in very small volume (600), and then ship individually.
If people are very lucky, he prioritizes to get the core game printed and delivered. If they are not, he tries to do them all at once to save on bulk shipping. Based on his previous campaigns and what they reveal about his estimation abilities, I think it'll be a disaster.
At least Synnibar doesn't have PLACEHOLDER ART BEING SHOWN. I know the Fantasy Royale (or whatever it was called) had problems with art, so that could definitely be a roadblock. (Wait. Why does Dungeon Crusade have PLACEHOLDER ART BEING SHOWN if the credits have *six* artists???) I don't have $100+ to risk on a game that has not reviews from a company with no track record. I'll throw it at more CMON plasticrack, thanks. I can at least use it with other games.
BGG's supposed to have an "anti-shill" algorithm, but apparently it isn't able to prevent people from ranking the game before it's in public hands. None of the regulars on BGG think much of the ratings, which sort of defeats the purpose of them...
