Welcome to the 16th Unofficial Painting Challenge here on Dakka! Each month, entrants use these challenges as motivation to get painting, push their skills, clear their backlogs and get feedback from the amazing P&M community here. Anyone is free to enter, whether this is your first model or your thousand and first!

This month, the theme is all about heroes and villains. The kind with grand plans, mighty power, large capes, fancy hats, big swords ect. The models that lead your armies to war and can turn the tide of a battle. As always, you are free to interpret this however you like, the more creative the better!


How To Enter
- You may enter up to 5 MODELS as a SINGLE ENTRY, and are permitted one entry per member per month. If you enter multiple models, they should ideally be related in some way, such as part of the same squad, unit or scene if you are doing a diorama
- You MUST post a 'proof' picture of your entry in the thread of the state it was in before you started working on it; this must be either unassembled, unpainted, primed or coated a single colour. Entries that do not submit a valid Proof Picture will not be eligible for voting.
- After this, you may post WIP pictures in this thread and your own if you wish, and on completing the entry, you may post up to 5 final pictures IN THIS THREAD that will then be used for voting. Please note that pictures in a montage or collage picture will be considered individual images for this purpose, so while these types of presentation are certainly acceptable, please keep the image limit in mind when compiling them. For example, a collage of 4 images and one separate image would count as your 5 picture allowance.


So What Do I Win?
- Points... and points mean... bragging rights for the next month Following the vote, points will be awarded to every entrant. This year, the Points you receive will be equal to the Percentage of Votes your entry receives in the final Voting thread; if you get 10%, you get 10 points, if you get 6% you get 6 points, so on and so forth.

These points will be used to form a league table, which will be updated month on month as the results come in.


How Long Do I Have?
This challenge begins 1st June and will end at midnight GMT on the 31st June. After this, I shall compile the finished entries into a new thread, and voting will run for 5 days.

Apparently I can neither count nor tell what month it is! I blame the fact I've only had a single cup of tea this morning. All fixed now!

Hmmm will a Chaos Imperial Knight be eligible for this months entry? He does command a certain presence, but I'm uncertain if he is in the "boss man" or "Holy hell that thing is big" category.

Entering my Varanguard. I dont know if it will be 1, 2, or 3 of them, but at least Ill have something this month.

I am sorely, sorely tempted to enter Mephiston, the Lord of Death. I just finished stripping him in preparation for repainting and this might be the best opportunity I have to get him painted up.

I'll ponder upon this, and try to snap some proof pictures in the near future.

I've somehow managed to achieve completing every painting comp this year, even when challenging myself. Let's see how I go with a real challenge.

For my first Dakka Painting Challenge, I'll be painting Jocasta Caine & Marcus Barros - Post-Human Republic (PHR) Special Commanders for Dropzone Commander. There's nothing special about the dropship. It'll carry either Caine & her bodyguards or Barros, so it needs to have a matching paintjob.

he's gonna get something... I just not sure what yet >< really not happy with the neck but the bit that hid all that join etc was covering up his face - plus this has a set of even bigger pauldrons (Without pauldrons pic) but I didn't like them much at all (for this use).

Hmm... the head looks less awkward with the stock pauldrons. Maybe put a spacer in the neck area and then give him some sort of MK8ish collar?

Ah...! They ran a kickstarter.... I almost backed it, but it looked like it wasn't going to come close to being funded, so I passed. No wonder it looks so familiar.

This is the guy who started it all for me. HeroQuest was my first foray into minis as a small boy. After quarter of a decade of looking like this -
- it was time to strip him and start again.

He does not lead an army, he has no fancy capes or hats, but single push of a button of this single guardsman makes people fly. Literally..

Hero Quest was also my first foray into gaming. i got it as a lad when it came out. Ive never painted the hero's from it. It didnt even dawn upon me. Thanks for the idea! I have hundreds of more mini's then i thought i did
