Is 'Eavy Metal Calling?

UK

Welcome to the 16th Unofficial Painting Challenge here on Dakka! Each month, entrants use these challenges as motivation to get painting, push their skills, clear their backlogs and get feedback from the amazing P&M community here. Anyone is free to enter, whether this is your first model or your thousand and first!

This month, the theme is all about heroes and villains. The kind with grand plans, mighty power, large capes, fancy hats, big swords ect. The models that lead your armies to war and can turn the tide of a battle. As always, you are free to interpret this however you like, the more creative the better!

How To Enter
- You may enter up to 5 MODELS as a SINGLE ENTRY, and are permitted one entry per member per month. If you enter multiple models, they should ideally be related in some way, such as part of the same squad, unit or scene if you are doing a diorama
- You MUST post a 'proof' picture of your entry in the thread of the state it was in before you started working on it; this must be either unassembled, unpainted, primed or coated a single colour. Entries that do not submit a valid Proof Picture will not be eligible for voting.
- After this, you may post WIP pictures in this thread and your own if you wish, and on completing the entry, you may post up to 5 final pictures IN THIS THREAD that will then be used for voting. Please note that pictures in a montage or collage picture will be considered individual images for this purpose, so while these types of presentation are certainly acceptable, please keep the image limit in mind when compiling them. For example, a collage of 4 images and one separate image would count as your 5 picture allowance.

So What Do I Win?
- Points... and points mean... bragging rights for the next month Following the vote, points will be awarded to every entrant. This year, the Points you receive will be equal to the Percentage of Votes your entry receives in the final Voting thread; if you get 10%, you get 10 points, if you get 6% you get 6 points, so on and so forth.

These points will be used to form a league table, which will be updated month on month as the results come in.

How Long Do I Have?
This challenge begins 1st June and will end at midnight GMT on the 31st June. After this, I shall compile the finished entries into a new thread, and voting will run for 5 days.

My entry this month. I've been looking forward to doing these guys for a while now, primed and I must admit I started blocking in the black a bit last night.

Apparently I can neither count nor tell what month it is! I blame the fact I've only had a single cup of tea this morning. All fixed now!

Hmmm will a Chaos Imperial Knight be eligible for this months entry? He does command a certain presence, but I'm uncertain if he is in the "boss man" or "Holy hell that thing is big" category.

I am sorely, sorely tempted to enter Mephiston, the Lord of Death. I just finished stripping him in preparation for repainting and this might be the best opportunity I have to get him painted up.

I'll ponder upon this, and try to snap some proof pictures in the near future.

updates to come.

Heros or vilaines? I thought we were just doing good guys! I’ll have to think about things.

But I’ll start by entering the good captain on the left. I reserve the right to change my mind if I find a nice mustache twirling chap lurking around somewhere.

For my first Dakka Painting Challenge, I'll be painting Jocasta Caine & Marcus Barros - Post-Human Republic (PHR) Special Commanders for Dropzone Commander. There's nothing special about the dropship. It'll carry either Caine & her bodyguards or Barros, so it needs to have a matching paintjob.

Proof:

If you're interested, here's a little fluff:
Spoiler:

From the Hawk Wargames Homepage:

Jocasta Caine, Battle Vizier
Although almost all PHR citizens are mysterious characters to the UCM, in the case of Jocasta Caine, a small amount of information is known. Most information gleaned about her past came from a single conversation between a UCM ambassador's bodyguard and his opposite number (Caine), who was running protection duty for her commander, Supreme Vizier Varrens. Caine was apparently once a member of the elite Siren Corps, although she was reassigned due to her obvious leadership skills to a command post and given the rank of Battle Vizier (the PHR equivalent of captain).

Subsequent reports of her in battle paint a fuller, more frightening picture. On three separate occasions, forces under her command have descended with swift ferocity on unsuspecting UCM recon patrols, slaughtering them almost to a man and without mercy.

She normally rides to battle in a rarely seen jump-walker type known as the Hera. Caine is also often accompanied by an elite bodyguard of Apollo Strike Walkers, piloted by some of the most gifted operators under her command.

Marcus Barros, Grand Vizier
The name of Marcus Barros is already, justly, infamous among the UCM high command. His recorded battles have epitomised classic PHR military tactics and already serves as textbook examples for instruction to all officers, both on active duty and in training. He is known for bombarding opponents into the dust with extreme firepower levelled from a secure and superior position. Barros prefers to take to the centre of the fire line in person by piloting a Hades Type-4 Super Heavy Battle Walker, modified with several weapon systems not commonly seen on this vehicle pattern.

At 135mm in length, this variant of the Hades is one of the largest, most imposing miniatures we have created so far. All the legs and arms are ball jointed and the tail and Rail Repeater are fully positionable. For those keen dropship-modellers out there, the tail can also fold flush with the body to allow it to fit under a Poseidon Heavy Dropship, providing that the legs have been posed to correspond with the six mount points under the Poseidon's hull.

he's gonna get something... I just not sure what yet >< really not happy with the neck but the bit that hid all that join etc was covering up his face - plus this has a set of even bigger pauldrons (Without pauldrons pic) but I didn't like them much at all (for this use).

Hmm... the head looks less awkward with the stock pauldrons. Maybe put a spacer in the neck area and then give him some sort of MK8ish collar?
