Hey all.

I'm currently working on my KDK again for "general club play". Not looking to make them into the next GT winning list or anything, but I don't wanna get stomped every game either. Aside from the agonising question of "CAD or Blood Host", my other consideration is whether or not to include a D-thirster (or even two for that matter).

Simple question really: are they worth including, or should I skip them altogether and spend the points on jugger lords and maulerfiends?

I'd personally skip him for "Jugger Lord and Maulerfiends"

But, I'd make sure I had a cheap "expendable" juggerlord with that Thirster Axe relic...thing. That way you can Summon a D-thirster.

If you are trying to make the decision to buy the model, the answer is yes. Even if you don't filed him right away, every KDK play should own one. You never know when the blood tithe goes well enough you could summon one. The new FAQ draft makes it much better to summon since you can do so in Glide mode and charge the next turn.

Tbh the model is half the reason I'm wavering anyway! How the hell am I supposed to transport one, let alone two of them??

Don't glue the wings. Pin them and use large magnets. That makes transporting it easier.

Yes, they are. Accept that the Bloodthirster of Insensate Rage is a (somewhat risky) kamikaze, but the odds are that he will take out the one unit you point him at. The trick is making sure that unit is worth the investment.

Glide, run, and jink. It's a pretty good anti-knight weapon, despite people being scared of destroyer weapons that strike last. Yes, a knight or sword & shield wraithknight is scary, but whilst he WILL wound you, he won't kill you unless he lands a deathblow hit.

With only 3-4 attacks, and needing a '5' to hit, and then a '6' to deathblow.....the odds are pretty low. By comparison, if the Bloodthirster gets to swing, anything - Knight, Wraithknight, Hierophant, Primarch, Warhound, whatever - is going home in a box. In bits.

You can't summon a D-thirster. The only kind that you can summon (with Blood Tithe or the Axe of Ruin) is the regular 'thirster (Unfettered Fury).

I love my D-thirster, myself. Problem is, he usually dies before he makes it to his target. He's a good distraction unit, though, and can eat a fair number of shots before he goes down, meaning the rest of your army can advance largely unopposed. When he makes it to his target, he hits like a freight train. He's mainly good for smashing enemy vehicles to bits. I've taken out plenty of Guard vehicles, a Land Raider, a Stormsurge, a couple of other Bloodthirsters, a Soul Grinder, and some other stuff with mine in various games. Still haven't had him make it into combat against a Knight or Wraithknight (Eldar will usually 6 him out with their D-weapon spam...).

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

According the GW Draft FAQ's, I believe that when you bring in a Thirster (whether via Blood Tithe or Possession), you can choose whichever type as long as you have the model.

Yea they changed that and you can now choose what thirster to summon, including the ability to generate blood thithes.

Only for the poessession psychic power. The KDK blood tithe/Axe are still unfettered fury only.

But fishing for possession is the best way to get the KDK D thirster in play IMO.
