Hiya! So here's my problem. I am coming back into the game out of 5th edition. Back then I played necrons, but eventually sold my collection to help fund a move. I am looking to pick it back up but I don't wanna just do necrons again. I wanna do something new. I always dreamt of doing a flying circus, but I've heard bad things. So here's my questions:

1. Is there still a respectable way to run flying circus in 7th? I'm not just looking for a fun army, I want it to be something I can take to bigger tournaments if I get good with it. Doesn't have to be the best, but I wanna stand a chance lol.

2. If it's not, is there any army where I can build something co,petitive that focuses around big monsters? That's really what I want and why I wanted flying circus, is because I want to play something that focuses mainly on big boss monsters. Not really tanks or mechs, I'd prefer living breathing monsters. Tyranids seem like theyd be a good alternative. Is there a big monster build that works better for them?

3. If it's just not possible to play a big monster list, where should I start building with daemons? Like what are some key units I'd need to get an army started?

Thanks for taking the time to read!

In terms of fliers you are probably better off with flying monsters(specifically shooting/casting) rather than airplanes. Airplanes aren't all that hot anymore. However tyranids have the flying tyrant which is pretty nasty(nasty enough many tournament lists feature trio of those with minimal troop choices as allies. Despite being come the apocalypse allies).

Of course rest of tyranid army is pretty average at best so you would be basically running on those flying tyrants. Then again fielding like 6 of those isn't that unfeasible...

Thank you for the input! I'm actually not too concerned with whether or not they can fly. Its Definately a plus, but if there are better monsters who cant fly out there I'd love to know about them too

the best monsters are probly knights with baby carriage, the new knights and all their variants or eldar wraith knight. True monsters living died out sadly tyranids are the next SoB have nohing special just there.

Daemons have a few good ways to run FMC lists, check out the Infernal Tetrad tactics thread in the tactics section for details on using the daemon prince formation (1 of each type with various buffs). If you want to go a different route with daemons you can always run Fateweaver, a Tzeentch DP, Be'Lakor, and a D-Thirster.

I've recently run the Tetrad with a couple tzeentch heralds and some pink horrors for 20+ warp charge dice for summoning and it's been great. Last time I played I brought in 2 squads of flesh hounds, two bloodthirsters, and a squad of plague drones in 4 turns. Having 6 FMCs running around is pretty cool.

Most "flying circus" lists focus more on getting your monsters into combat nowadays as opposed to swooping around and contesting objectives like 6th edition. Daemons have some very strong tournament lists with 4 or more FMCs at the moment though, and you can always summon more.

Thanks for the info guys. Knights honestly didn't even occur to me. They're pretty beefy too. Gonna look into that infernal tetrad thing right now!
