Q:Can a unit ever attack a model in a challenge?

A:Yes. This is an exception to the normal rules, in which expansions override the rulebook.

Q:If a unit charges a single-character unit and a challenge is issued, do the non-character units still get to attack the single character?

A:No

So am I the only one confused by this? If these two things are not contridicting each other will someone please explain to me how?

the pictures are full of errors... you have to check the text on the side

Q: Can a unit ever attack a model in a challenge?
A: Yes, but only after all other enemy models in that combat have been slain.

Q: If a unit charges a single-character unit and a challenge is issued, do the non-character units still get to attack the single character?
A: Yes.

Luckily it is a first draft. I do hope they double check their wording for the next draft, or their final product.

The wording was fine, they just botched the translation from the text to the picture. Not a hard mistake to make when they released some 30+ pictures the first day.

Which is confusing since their name is "GAMES" Workshop. If they really want the emphasis to be on making models, they need to change their name to "Miniatures Workshop"

The miniatures aren't game pieces? Games Workshop is an appropriate name. You make it sound like the word game refers to the rules and no other element of a game.

Games Workshop use to be a game company that published games and gaming magazines. Then they purchased Citadel Miniatures, after Citadel had acquired Marauder Miniatures. They also forced Armorcast out of business before launching Forge World.

It seem like Games Workshop did forget they were a games company first.

IIRC it was actually the other way around - the guys at Citadel bought up GW pretty early on. The only reason they kept the GW name was the existence of the first few GW shops. It would have been too expensive (several hundred pounds!) to take down the signs and put up new ones.

As for the real question challenges should just be removed. It's a silly Fantasy mechanic shoehorned into 40K where many armies actually have no way at all of putting up any "challenge" when mr. Combatmonster reaches them. Mr Combatmonster the tough who will always challenge, unless he thinks the opposing champion could kill him or just tank the wounds... then it's perfectly fine to attack the grunts instead and let a sarge die. The mechanic should be named "Who can sacrifice more sergeants?" to reflect what it's actually about.
