Returning to games workshop after a very long time, after picking up the aos starter for 40 quid at the week end have just put in a 3 month sub for white dwarf. Thought I'd give it a shot, plus saving even more cash on gws products can't be bad,,,

Was Visions issue #30 the final issue or is there a #31 in August prior to the launch of the new WD?

Currently most played: Silent Death, Mars Code Aurora, Battletech, Warcrow and Infinity.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

Hmm, well, hopefully there's something in there that isn't AoS.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"Your society's broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No, lets blame the people with no power and no money and those immigrants who don't even have the vote. Yea, it must be their fething fault." - Iain M Banks

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

Yay... I will be converting it into a Chaos Space Marine. Shouldn't be too hard.

Well, since I already have multiple slaughter priests I guess I will use one for the Bloodreaver Chief.

If there isn't 40k content my subscription will get cancelled after the first quarter. I have next to no interest in age of sigmar. I was hoping for a fairly balanced first issue.

The only thing I am sad to see is no Blanchitsu. With the recent Pilgrymme game at warhammer world with the Ironsleet crew I was hoping it might get featured in a Blanchitsu in White Dwarf.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

I went all-in on a year subscription, but I am thinking that was a mistake. I have some Age of Sigmar stuff I wouldn't mind new info for, but if they don't give equal focus to 40K, the magazine is a waste.

If the rumours are anything to go by the releases they cover will be the deathwatch, the next 40k campaign book and the new gorechosen board game. That seems pretty balanced.

If Blanchitsu doesn't return I shall be sad.

Because one issue, good or bad, will undoubtedly be indicative of the entire year of releases.

P.S.

Many sources have indicated that GW is going to be alternating focus from 40k to AoS from year to year. i.e. 2016 was mostly AoS with a scattered 40k, 2017 will be mostly 40k with scattered AoS.

I've put my money on the table in the hope of a good hobby magazine and if I get, great. If it's just 'buy the new release!!!' I won't stick with it. That's all.

Is it just me, or is there really anything going on with 40k right now outside of FAQs?

AoS is all the rage right now. It's OK. I'm sure they won't leave their bread and butter on the sideline for long.

Well lucky for you, they've said multiple times that the new format won't be a product catalogue and will focus more on battle reports, designers' notes, painting tutorials, etc.

Well that's great and we live in hope. But it is possible we will have, for example, the sylvaneth issue with how to paint sylvaneth, battle report sylvaneth, designers notes sylvaneth, which amounts to 'buy sylvaneth!!!' I would love to see it turn out different but that article list doesn't give me much hope. Fingers crossed!

That is certainly true. It is definitely time for some 40K though.

I really hope they have the 1/3rd Lord of the Rings. That was the only thing making White Dwarf any good in the mid 2000s. Loved the LotR articles and battle reports and what not.

Hopefully there will be a healthy amount of LotR. I guess with over 150 pages, that should mean at least 50 pages for 40K, AoS and LotR.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

I'd be shocked if LOTR got 10% of the overall coverage.

I am hoping for more options for some of the board games like Deathwatch: Overkill and Silver Tower.

Yeah, it would be great if they included mini-games and expansions to existing games like they used to.

I'll third that motion. Only WDs I've bought over the past 18 months have had board game stuff I was after.
New missions for DWOK, B@C, a new 'hero' for the new Warhammer Quest and being able to use Warhammer Quest ST stuff in AoS.

Considering how poor the last monthly WD dong and the amount of times they tried to fix it, I'm not holding out a lot of hope that this new one will be good.

What number will the first issue be? 1? the next after the last monthly wd or the next after the last weekly wd?

I don't think it will yet, but when they start releasing new stuff for LotR I'm sure there'll be stuff in the mag.

Yeah. It was called Tale of Four Gamers before, and I loved it too. They started one of them in my first ever issue of white dwarf when I first got into wargaming.
