Subject: Re:Would you watch a Warhammer40k Cartoon?

To the fighting 95th. Cornwell did well with that story, and the films are decent.
While the idea of a 40k cartoon is appealing, it'd be really easy for it to become really bad.
So while I'd watch a bit, I reckon I'd veer off pretty quick.
Love to be proved wrong though.
My $0.02, which since 1992 has rounded to nothing. Take with salt.
Elysian Drop Troops, Dark Angels, 30K
Mercenaries, Retribution
Ten Thunders, Neverborn
I don't know. After watching that Space Marine movie cartoon and was supposedly written by a Black Library author I have no faint in anyone who would try and make 40K into a Cartoon.
Now just pay James Cameron 10 million dollars just for him and you will have an instant classic and make tons of money for GW an the movie company.

I would also go nuts for Gaunt's Ghosts turned into a good animated series. Seriously I love those books, I've never gotten attached to or hated characters so much. Maybe it's just because I was a soldier, but damn I bet a good Gaunt's Ghosts series could just rake in the dough. While it is 40k, it's from the every man's perspective, you get chaos, you get space marines, you get aliens, and psychic shenanigans, but the focus is these average joe woodsmen turned soldier and Gaunt being this decent human being that you can really relate to.

The enemies of Mankind may employ dark sciences or alien weapons beyond Humanity's ken, but such deviance comes to naught in the face of honest human intolerance back by a sufficient number of guns.
I would if it was done right but gods no don't make it an anime, anime is over rated, MASSIVLY over rated, sure there arte some good ones, but most anime is trash. and most anime when it attempts to be "dark" just ends up being emo and broody.
I think space marine based would be a mistake, the best way to do a 40k cartoon series would be to focus on an Inqusitor. you could have each episode be him investigating something, and have each season basicly contribute to a mega investigation.
Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

So...like X-Files?

Jaxler wrote:Gritty and dark are a no go in anime. There is a reason why anime is stagnating and only producing similar looking and feeling content with little real innovation IMO since the mid 2000. Nobody seems to be able to get funding for risks/creative stuff anymore.
Now, I feel like a dark gritty setting could work. Look at attack on Titan. problem is that nobody will ever take the risk in making a truly grim dark thing with brutal combat. Animation is expensive, and they'd never really risk the envestment when they could make "cute school girl love romance show with magic #2854" and make all kinds of cash back like they did the last time they made one.

curran12 wrote:An anime would be a laughably bad fit for 40k. For the overwhelming majority, anime and anime writers are extremely bad at dark writing (exceptions being Madoka Magica) and even what dark is there is very cliche and broody.
You Guys ever heard of Berserk?, Akira?, Helsing? Psycho Pass?, Tokyo Ghouls?
there is PLENTY of Dark and Gritty in anime, you just need to stop focusing on the stupid stuff that is non-stop pouring out of studios for marketing reasons.
Darn the Vison of Escaflowm Movie is plenty of Dark and Gritty, so much that you have a hard time to link it to the source material.
You guys actually believe GW can actually get a good cartoon out? Haven't you guys seen Space Marine? Man I still can't get those hours back in my life.

You don't watch much anime, do you?
Not all anime has bishies and is slice of life harem drivel. A 40k anime styled after something like Berserk would be pretty neat.
Hell, it could even be a sort of Cowboy Bepop thing, following the exploits of a bunch of Rogue Trader misfits.
A 40k anime styled after Jojo (pre-diamond is unbreakable) would be hilarious. See Brutha Alfabusa's series, particularly the scenes with the 3 custodes, for reference.
I don't honestly. But even Cowboy Bebop (Blessed Be His Name) would be too flamboyant for 40k, even the manliest anime would be too flamboyant.
"We have lost the element of surprise, and they do not fear us. Perhaps they will appreciate our devotion to the Emperor and our ruthless efficiency."
The original Dawn of War intro scene, even 12 years on, is simply stunning. Clearly the tech is there to do it, and has been for some time. If they could do a feature based around that then hell yes I'd watch it
Skinflint Games- war gaming in the age of austerity
GW executives wont understand what 40k audience want to see and will assume that since ANIME is popular and cheap then they would employe a bunch of anime fan artists. Is GW still trying to market their toy models to children?
Have any of you guys seen the DC/Marvel done in Anime style? It is atrociously bad with its fan service borderline hentai and horrible anime dbz fighting style.
If GW produces an Anime style cartoon then it justs proves how out of touch they are with their intended audience. It will just validate their stupidity. It will further justify my hatred towards GW.
Buddingsquaw wrote: A Titan A.E art style series following a Magos and his retinue on a quest to uncover lost technology would be fair-doo.
Plenty of way to keep the series interesting, what with all the bizarre and fantastic contraptions that could be the basis for each episode.
(Or, ideally, like Doctor Who from way-back-when, multiple episodes around one plot)
It'd be nice to see proper advertisement for stuff that aren't Spehs Merheens.
A Titan A E reference? I thought I was the only one who remembered that movie. You know, if you take out all the Creed music, that was a solid movie.
