So a friend of mine is starting to influence me to do 30k. As a man of Khorne, it'll be WE.

So, from what I was told it's rule of cool + Tac Marines.

Is this true? And what good things do the WE have?

War Kitten You haven't seen anything yet. Stick around for a few weeks and you'll see some things that'll make you question all you know about life, love, and 40k. Such as a Gargant being beheaded by a flying Battle Barge

That seems like a plus.

There is this as well that can be helpful.

Welcome fellow World Eater!

The biggest advantage for WE might be tactical squads that can do work and don't feel like a tax or designated objective-sitter. With Rage, Hatred, and wound rerolls of '1' potentially stacking, a tac squad can force a fearsome number of armor saves. They are somewhat charge-reliant, though, so transports with assault ramps can obviously be key here.

Red Butchers are an excellent choppy Terminator unit if you're running traitor WE. Rampagers (their special veteran unit) and their caedere weapons are underwhelming in comparison. Nothing wrong with including some as a fluffy choice, of course.

Unlike most other primarchs, Angron gives almost no boosts to your army beyond Fearless within range. But he's certainly choppy, and gets choppier the more units and characters he slays. His attacks have Armourbane, so he can be a problem solver.

Book 6 (Retribution) allows WE apothecaries some new tricks, and introduced a special character primus medicae who grants 4+ FNP and can augment tac squads to have +1S and 6+ FNP at the cost of -1 BS and their scoring status. One of their rites of war is mostly about armywide Hatred, the other is mostly about boosts to FNP.

Overall, the rules steer you toward playing them in a fairly fluffy manner -- lots of bodies, lots of CC prowess. But of course you still have access to all the same shooty/blasty stuff in the basic army list like any other legion.

Hope that's helpful as you begin on your crimson path.

Thanks Victor for the link, that'll be helpful.

And thank you Gorgon, I think I know what direction I'm going now.

Do I need HH Book 6 or just the red books?

You need the Age of Darkness Legions book for the legion-specific stuff, and the Crusade Army List book for the basic army list. HOWEVER, note that the CAL book will be updated probably within a month, and that there will be some unit rebalancing in there. Might want to hold off on that one.

For now, you need book 6 if you want the new hotness -- Gahlan Surlak, the new apothecary rule, and the new WE rite of war. Otherwise you can play them just fine with the other two books. The new stuff will fold into the Legions book down the road, although I imagine that's a year or two away since that book just got an update.

Ok, thanks, I'll just theorycraft for now.
