I'm REALLY getting into the models for Age of Sigmar but I honestly don't know where I start. After scouring the forums for a little bit, it seems everyone plays 40k and there are no AoS players to be heard of. It probably doesn't help that this is my first War-gaming experience ever so I don't know where to start.

I really like the Slaves to Chaos models if that's of any correlation.

With the new generals hand book coming out on the 23rd the game gets points back, so it should bring more people into the game and playing it more often.

I think by the end of the month it will really pick up pace.

With AoS your best of going with an army you love rather than the units that are best.
So pick up the units you like.

To start with though, get the free age of sigmar rules from the app.
That's the best place to start.

Step 1: don't go by forums, especially for liking a game because the most silly negative-nellies/whiners gravitate to these things for some reason. But you made the right choice to ignore that and ask
As Jackal said take a look at what you like. The app is free, rules and everything is free. I recommend checking out tga.community which is the best source for everything AoS and you don't even need to do anything. Just watch the discussion if you like. Welcoming groups and they can hook you up and help find opponents.

What do you want to do? By that, part of the hobby is playing. The other part of the hobby is collecting and modelling and painting. In my case nobody games so I can't play. But I still like to collect and model and paint so I still do that. I say for now buy what you think looks cool and go for it.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

What is TGA?

The Grand Alliance (TGA) started from a community leader, player, play-tester, event organizer, podcast host Sir Ben Curry who created the best resource AoS could ever have. It's a nexus for whatever players need. It's not drawing anyone away from a forum or FB group or anything, just a place to celebrate the hobby, connect, get ideas or inspiratation or any kind of help they/we can offer. www.tga.community is the site. There are more members every day but especially with the GHB now. I can't recommend it enough. And quite a few Dakka folks have popped in there as well.

There's supposed to be the first GW sanctioned AoS event in the US in Vegas, actually, we just learned yesterday.

I saw your location and thought I should throw that out. It would be Las Vegas Open (LVO) which I think is in Feb.-ish, Here's this past one. Just keep a n eye out anyway but I wouldn't expect any announcements for a bit. https://www.frontlinegaming.org/las-vegas-open-2016/

I went around the store, Everyone was a 40k player and wanted me to be a Ork guy (They didn't have an ork player) and when I told them if they knew any AoS players I got the funniest looks from them . Guess I'm stuck with 40k.

I wouldn't trust any 40k players who push orks onto people. Sadly, they are incredibly weak atm... So logically, nobody plays them.

If you are really torn between the 2 gaming systems: there's always demons....

You could get a core of those and they fall under the chaos banner... you can just paint up some slaves to darkness to join them later on as well.

The boy, I say, the boy is as sharp as a sack of wet mice...

If people were pushing Orks on you, there are only two possibilities for the general tone of said player-base...

1. Genuinely fun/fluffy and were encouraging a new player to try a silly/fun army.

2. They were ass-hats looking for a store punching-bag, and aren't people you would've wanted to play with anyway.

Thanks for the heads up. The General's Handbook was the bit that pushed me to AoS. I was really disappointed with the AoS initial release and it really appears they are turning the game around. I joined TGA earlier this morning. Great site!

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

I'm hearing lots of stores though dipping the big toe in the water with the GHB now. Your Vegas store should have it now. Don't expect a major turn in 4 hours but don't give up! In the meantime TGA.community forums will help.

NewTruthNeomaxim, I live near Batavia, somewhat between Buffalo and Rochester. I've got a few armies built up from my WHFB days but have been unsuccessful in finding many players as well. I know one guy in Buffalo who plays AoS and 1 or 2 in Rochester but that is about it. What stores do you frequent?

I did check out the Blue diamond store awhile back when I picked up Start Collecting! Skitarii and the paints. I didn't know they did AoS events. Though I did go over there one time to help with my painting, I got a store worker who knew nothing about painting.

There's no way they would only push orks on me because they wanted a punching-bag. People arn't like that.
