Hypothetically, if a band of orks were to get their hands on some nerve gas, would they use it against their enemies in combat? On one hand they may need to win a battle; on the other hand the use of such a weapon devoids them of their primary joy in life - fighting!

Thoughts?

Fighting is more of a mindset, rather than any particular action, to an ork! They like burning and shooting and bombing things, they don't necessarily have to punch everything to death.

Besides, orks would probably think gassing their enemies would be funny. And just think of the easy looting!

They are sure to use it if they lay a hand on it. Either a mek would have a lust of trying it out, either some disturbed boyz (quite average in fact) would try it out as a "nu way to kill da other guyz.", either they would end up bombing a planet in a huge, random stack of various style of shells...

So, basically, if they were to discover it, they would make use of it in some way or another!

What surprises me is that the Imperium officially doesn't.

Orks as a whole probably wouldn't actively think of using it, given their predisposition towards getting close and personal, but I can definitely see the more cunning orks like Kommando or Blood Axe bosses use it as a way to flush out any enemies trying to hide inside defensive fortresses or bunkers.

Step 1: Fire nerve gas at 'umies.
Step 2: Have a good laff at them as they twitch.
Step 3: Zog it, I wanna chop somethin'. 'Ere we go, boys- hold your breath!

Optional step 4: have a good laff at all the lads what couldn't hold their breath long enough.

Yeah, Orks would find a way to use nerve gas in a way never thought of.

1) Modify it just enough so the humans get real mad and want to fight! Now that is proper gas! If ladz breath it in: all the better!

2) We need slaves. When we go to "kaptcha" them, they tend to bleed too much and are no good. Best if they don;'t fight the laz: not much is left then.

3) It makes great seasoning on food.

4) Get you loopy when the doc works on ya.

5) Great air freshener for the "drops" and keeps the squigs a little less bity.

Snakebites might even use it against their own kind. A mad doc might try to use it as an anesthetic a'fore surgery.

Best time weez had with that hummie nerve gas was when da boys got bored an' tied a few cannisters to squigs and send 'em running at the enemy ... See how far tha' little buggers get a'fore they flop over (and don't ferget me three teeth bet on twenty paces!). Old Zog once did tha' same, without pullin' the cork first. Turned out he wanted ta' use his longgun ta see if the cans would blow up in da middle of the hummies ranks - if he could hit 'em, that is. Watchin' tha hummies faces as they scattered on that one were worth a laugh, and I'll never forget da the orange mushroom cloud when Zog finally hit iz mark.

Yeah, and I can see them using it as a sort of nitrous on their vehicles - with it only ticklin' da orks nose as it creates a noxious cloud around dem.

It never ends well

Do Orks really have the research capability to not only construct multiple types of nerve gas and nerve gas delivery systems, but also test which gases work on different species?

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

Orks will do it random, as always. So, imagine they're fighting da nids, if the first gas they (as luck would have it) found proves inefficient, then they're just gonna put some random thing in it or let it down and find it another use.

So as far as the greenskin, well, there's just no research skill required!

Depends. A Blood Axe might think its a great idea. A Loota might say "e-zee lootin' ladz." A Goff or Snakebite might think its cowardly and not Orky to kill all the enemies without a propa scrap.

Gas Squigs do exist in the fluff. That doesnt seem random at all. I would rather call it preprogrammed.

True, but orks just think about knowing whether that's funny or not!

Thanks for all the terrific input! I expected this to be a bit more even but the vast majority say the orks would have no issue with using nerve gas.

I'm running a campaign this summer where the boyz are going to use some 'bug spray' to thin out some nids but it made me think how unsatisfying that would have to be for orks wantin' a good scrap! Doesn't seem proppa and all that but war is war after all.

I'm sure they'd use it, but I don't think they would be very impressed with it.
