Tarpitted.

You mean what?

The Artificer brush is the fine detail equivalent, I believe.

But it's disgustingly priced for something you don't need.

I like the new GW brush line but that one is silly.

There's definitely need for very small detail. But then again plenty options from other alternatives. Cheaper + better quality.

edit: Bejezus. 20e for single brush? What platinum handle brushes GW designed? Those better be some new ones that are actually good...Bejezus.

IMO, to become a better painter, you want to use a bigger brush.

If you are wanting a good brush, get a Winsor and Newton 1, its the same size as the standard brush, then pick up a citadel fine detail for the very small stuff.

To many unpainted models to count.

The Artificer brushes are Kolinsky sable.

At a huge mark up.

GW Artificer Medium (roughly analogous to size 1) - £16.

W&N 7 Series Size 1 - £8-10 depending on where you shop

Rosemary & co. 33 Series Size 1 - £4.25. I do most of my painting with these, they are only ever so slightly below W & N quality.

Raphael series 8404 size 1 - £7- 10 depending on where you shop.

GW Artificer brushes are good brushes, but the equivalent (or better) products out there are usually much cheaper. I speak from a UK perspective, however the brush topic comes up a lot and I've seen Yanks, Aussies and all manner of Europeans say the same thing.

W&N same size, like 17 bucks.

To many unpainted models to count.

A local retailer has the Winsor & Newton Series 7 No. 1 at $19.79 (plus shipping). The M Artificer is $26 at the FLGS less than 2 miles from my home. I'd probably pick up the Artificer brush on a visit to the FLGS before I order a brush sight unseen or make a 30 minute trip downtown and hassle with gas, parking, etc. Sometimes convenience makes the higher price product a better buy. Its up to each to decide if that's the case for them.

Windsor and Newton offers sizes as small as 000 for detail painting, but I get the most use out of my 1 and 2. I get them from amazon because my FLGS is over half an hour away and only carries citadel brushes, and I don't think they've ever stocked the Artificer line. Anything made of kolinsky sable should be a step up.

Yeah, GW brushes are crap, except, maybe, for their 'artificer' brands. But then again, W&N Longhair brushers feel so much nicer.

Not gonna wade into the "this brush is better than that brush" thing, because I think too much is personal preference and what you can get your paws on easily. But pricewise...

No discount W&N S7 in Canada is CAD $20, $21, $24 (for size 00, 0, 1)
No discount Artificer in Canada is CAD $24, $28, $31 (for size XS, S, M)

However, it's (much) easier to get discounts on Citadel paintbrushes in Canada, because most indie stores have some discount, while there are hardly any W&N retailers, and they have sales very rarely. And, the GW brush is highly available retail, while the S7 brush is only available at high-end fine arts stores (for example, NOT Michael's).

Since I am very patient and buy my S7 brushes when they DO go on sale (and then buy enough to last me quite a while), my S7's end up a little cheaper than my Artificers. But really, the price difference doesn't come out to that big of a number.

Performance-wise, they have a significantly different feel. Sometimes, I feel that the Citadel brush is superior for a task, other times the W&N.
