Hello guys,
I bought that book few days ago because I really like the Sylvaneth fluff in the Battletome and... Oh boy how pleased I am!
For the record, I also bought Wardens of the Everqueen months ago, as well as a couple older battletomes, and I've always been extremely disappointed with the lore creativity and the writing level, which I find very poor.
This book isn't anything like that. First of all it's interesting. Unlike everything else I've read in AoS prior to this one, it's not only about battles. These stories explore some very interesting things about the Sylvaneth lore such as social interactions, hierarchy, casts, work, personal identity, etc. You get to discover and understand the way they communicate through sung thoughts, how they breed, their personal motivations and interactions with the world, the role of spites and spirits, etc.
Of course there are battles too, and again, I was very pleasantly surprised. It's well written and exciting. If like me you hated to boredom the fights in Wardens of the Everqueen, you're gonna have a blast here. The villains are fantastic too, some with real motivations, fantastic dialogues, and more backstory than being there to be killed.
Long story short, I highly recommend that read.

I'm only just starting out with the novels.... Can I read this before reading the realm gate wars etc or is there a specific reading order?

Ok, what book are you talking about? I don't have a clue. Where is this review? You have to remember not everyone here is an expert or even knows what is going on in AoS. So for me, I don't know what book you are talking about.
I thought you already did a review on the Sylvaneth. I am thinking of picking it up because of you. So I am puzzled what book this is now.
*edit*
Oh I see the review now. I guess because I was thinking what book you were talking about my mind drifted and missed it. LOL you are right it is a short review. Sadly I still don't know what book you are talking about. Is it a new codex/warscroll thing?

The campaign books should be read in order, the Realmgate Wars Novels have an order to them but can pretty much be read on their own; each is a self-contained tale (or tales).

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.
I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games. |

Thanks for your quick reply! I guess I'm not sure if this book (above) is part of the campaign books... It sounds like it is a stand-alone, but I'm not sure. (Epic noob mode activated)

It's just short novels centered about the Sylvaneth. The chronological order doesn't matter too much as it is more about the Sylvaneth lore than the world of AoS. It takes place after Alarielle rebirth though.
