Subject: Wraithknight or Start collecting! eldar?

Hi guys. I am currently in a problem deciding what I should get to improve my army. I am deciding between two choices. A wraithknight that has magnetized arms, painted the way I want it, all the extra weapons, but the torso stem broke apart at the glue joint, I can get that for $75. Or, I can get the Start collecting! Eldar pack directly from my GW store for $90. I you guys have any other suggestions of what I could get just let me know what you guys think. Thanks in advance. (just to let you know I'm pretty new to 40k so please cut my ignorance a little slack, thanks)

Assuming that you have Eldar, and you don't have a Wraithknight, you should get the Wraithknight. Because it is big and cool. Simple as that!
After that, get a box of Jetbikes (w/ Scatter Lasers) or the Starter set.
Then worry about filling the blanks where you don't have particular models.
Increase variety, starting with the "good" models.

Sorry about that, here is everything I have.
HQ's
1x eldrad
1x autarch
Troops
24 x guardians w/ support platforms
6x windriders
10x rangers
5x dire avengers
Elites
6x fire dragons
Fast Attack
1x wave serpent
5x warp spiders
Heavy support
1x fire prisim
3x war walkers
And another thing to consider is if I can deal with air enough, so I was also thinking about a crimson hunter.

Nice little army there!
The Start Collecting is more of the same Jetbikes and Fireprism that you already own.
Definitely get the Wraithknight!

The wraithknight is really appealing, but The only weapon in eldar that has skyfire is the missle launcher, so how can I deal with flyers?

My group isn't that big on Flyers, so I don't have any advice for that.

When you have a question of how to deal with an opponents model or a particular unit just go back to the Eldar Handbook.
"Is it Toughness 9 or less or AV12 or under? Hit it with Scat bikes, if it is T10 or AV 13 (and you can't flank it) hit it with a wraithknight"

Ok, so being new to this I'm not entirely famliar with the rules, especially flyers because I have yet to deal with them. What is allowed, or makes things allowed to shoot at flyers(other than skyfire)?

Anything that can fire Snap Shots (so non-blasts, non-Ordnance , non-autohit etc weapons) can be shot at fliers as Snap Shots (BS1).
Skyfire just allow the shots to be fired at full BS, rather than Snap Shots (at the cost of Snap Firing at everything else that isn't a Skimmer/Jetbike/Flier/FMC/FGC).

In other words those 6-12 scat bikes that almost every eldar list has can reliably take out aircraft.
6 Scat bikes = 6 S6 hits against a flyer. 6 S6 hits = about 3 glances/pens on AV10 flyers. so 1-2 turns to kill a flyer, however, most flyers aren't worth shooting at, just ignore them.

I think I' going to go with the wraithkight. For future reference, what do you guys think about crimson hunters, and how would you run them? I've heard a lot of good stuff about using them.

The fliers can be bought with some serious discount f you are going for the "flyer mini game" route.

The Crimson Hunter is a lot of fun. Very Eldar. Cool looking, fast moving, hard hitting, made of glass. IMHO a little overpriced for what you get, but that’s mostly because of how (un)sturdy it is. Probably worth upgrading to the exarch for the BS5, but the stock guns are good.
The formation for 3 is nice, but sucks up a lot of points. Otherwise they don’t fit well into formations, which can be an issue.
Probably worth investing in some reserve manipulation if you take one. You want to silence any AA fire, and come in after other flyers.

For future reference....don't pay $90 for a Start Collecting box when you can get them for $64.

Huh? A Scatter Laser is only 4 shots, not 6. On average 6 bikes will score 4 Snap Shot hits from 24 shots. If the target is AV12 (Vendetta, Valkyrie), it will be lucky to get ONE glance. To kill a 3 HP Vendetta, on average, it takes more than 4 turns for those Scatter Laser jetbikes to take out a Vendetta.

It's one of the few targets they don't instantly vaporize. Unfortunately, most of the AV 12 flyers are terrible value for the points.

The Valk / Vendetta is the only Flyer I own.
The only other Flyer that I see is the Necron Night Scythe. I'm not sure the Scatter Bikes do any better against that, either...

Well the NS is only AV11, so Scatbikes can in theory immobilise it and make it crash and burn in one round of shooting if they're lucky (or destroy its weapon or cause it to fire snap shot and/or have a locked velocity).

You are correct I goofed while writing that
6 scat bikes put out 24 shots, of which 4 will hit. ALL Of my Ork flyers are AV10 so they die to a stiff breeze, but realistically you don't need to shoot at Ork flyers because they are so garbage your better off not wasting shots at them.

If you're AV10, all I need are Bolters or Shuricats.

True, but Scatlasers are a more guaranteed kill for an AV10 flyer. Bolters need double 6s to do anything, Shuricats need 6 and 5? Where as Scatlasers need 6 and 4.

assuming you're within 12" (or 18" for Avengers)
Scatbikes are more likely to be in range and more likely to deal damage.

S6 4 shot Range 36 is OP when it is so abundant and cheap. Better?

SL have always been OP. It just didn't become unmanageable until 7th. The weapon itself was OP back when Eldar were BS 3, but the BS 3 blunted it. Mass S6 is just too good the way GW has statted the game.
