Would appreciate some insight from my fellow Raven Guard generals.

In the Pinion DemiCompany of the Raven Guard, you need to take 1 Captain of Chaplain as HQ choice.

Assuming you take the Pinion with Chapter Tactics Raven Guard (as most people will do), what's your favourite HQ choice in a Pinion, and how do you use them?

One approach I've heard is to take a basif Chaplain with Raven's Fury. Which then gets attached to your Assault Marines??

So what's your Raven Guard HQ poison?

(as an aside, how silly is it that Raven Guard can't take Jump Pack Command Squads - would have been sooo fluffy)

I personally don't use any sort of demi-company, not yet anyway, so I can't help you there. However my favourite rg hq in a CAD is korvydae.

For Khaela Mensha Khaine
For the Emperor and Sanguinius!

Korvydae is nice, I wish he could be included in a Pinion Demi-Company.

If you ask me, Khorvydae is permitted via Rules As Intended. He's a Captain, and a Captain is required. He's also a pretty potent HQ for an Assault Squad.

If you can't possibly countenance taking him, though, Chaplains are always fun; they're cheap, reliable and can happily take on challenges with unit leaders. Take one bare-bones or with a Jump Pack and he'll do a lot more than a Captain of equivalent cost.

Shrike is good as well, and shouldn't be overlooked. Yes, he's more expensive than is strictly necessary and his rules are weirdly limiting, but don't let that stop you taking a fun unit.

Basically, don't worry about min-maxing; it's futile and tiresome. Take what you damn well please and focus on becoming proficient with an army you really like.

Thanks for your reply! I totally agree with you that RAI Korvydae should be permitted.

When you take a Chaplain and/or Shrike, to which units do you attach them? The Assault Marines I guess?

In a Talon Strike Force, I run a fairly cheap Chaplain. He is more of a tax I have to accept in the army. I'll attach him to Assault Marines and act as an objective grabber or go after soft targets. My Chaplain has Raven Guard Jump Pack (I forget the name of it) and that's it.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Captain with Jump pack and Swiftstrike and Murder for the HQ then a command strike force with a chaplain with Ravens fury and both join the assault marines with packs and 2 flamers. Cheap deathstar.

Yeah, they're both very much Assault characters. Shrike's infiltrate thing only works on Jump Pack-equipped units, if I recall correctly, so that kind of coerces you into giving him either an Assault Squad or some Vanguard Veterans, and for fluff's sake I prefer the former.

It mist be said, though, that a full Assault Squad with an attached Chaplain is going to break the 300pt mark, more if it's Shrike instead, so watch how you go with those points.
