Hi just had a few rules queries about my Sylvaneth.
1. Does the enrapturing song of the dryads only work in my combat phase? Ie I hit on 3s in my turn but 4s in the enemies turn?
2. Does Drycha have to choose either her swarm of squirm or flitter? Do her moods prevent her from firing one or the other? Can she fire both? Somebody at my club mentioned an FAQ that said she was restricted to one shooting attack but I am not sure from the description or abilities.
3. Kurnoth hunters re roll armor save ability says that I can gain re roll armor in the charge phase. Does this translate to they always get re roll armor in CC as it doesn't specify they must be charged by a unit. It just says activate in the charge phase.
4. The great folk formation says I need three units of dryads. What does unit mean? Is it that I have paid for three Warscrolls and it doesn't matter how I organise those units. I could blob them into thirty. Or does it mean that I have to have three seperate units in the battle irrespective of how many Warscrolls I have purchased? I mean it seems unfair that I can take 3 units of five dryads but if I take one unit of 20 I don't meet the requirement.
5. Are tree revanants worth their points?

5. Are tree revanants worth their points?
1. Yes, it specifically states "in your own combat phase" and lasts only "in that combat phase".
2. Yes, Drycha only gets one. It states in her description "Her form plays host to either a colony of flitterfuries or a swarm of squirmlings" - meaning when you deploy her you should identify which she is using if she is not using the one she is modeled with. Her moods do not prevent her from firing either, but only buff one. (So "enraged" does not help her if she has squirmlings, other than the boost to her melee attacks.)
3. Kurnoth hunters can choose to root themselves at the start of either player's charge phase to get the rerolled saves until the end of the turn. This choice is made BEFORE any charges, so they cannot make a charge move on the turn they do that. In addition, they can only pile in 1" instead of 3" before attacking when they are rooted, so its possible for the enemy to be in range to attack you (with 3" range), but not for you to be able to attack back (1" pile in + 1" greatsword range). Otherwise, yes, they *can* always get the rerolled saves in close combat, even if no one made any charge moves that turn.
4. This one I can't answer with certainty. I *believe* it works as follows: you can pay 120 points to create 2 units of 5 and have it count as 2 separate minimum strength units. If you pay 240 points to create a unit of 20 dryads instead, it still only counts as 1 unit for purposes of battalion/battleline reqs. So the absolute cheapest way you can get the great folk formation would be to spend 240 points for 2 units of 5 dryads and 1 unit of 10 dryads. Keep in mind, dryads really want to be over 15 strong for that extra armor, so minimizing unit size for a battalion only works if you really are depending on the battalion's bonuses and taking dryads "because you have to".
5. Depends on a lot of factors. They seem fine on paper for taking objectives around the board or harassing artillery, but I've only played one game against them (as ogors). They killed my sabretooths (not hard to do), and then decided to charge by ironguts and never got any attacks in before being decimated (par for the course when you charge ironguts with a small battleline unit...). I would suggest running more than just 5 at a time, but someone else can give more insight maybe.

Aww, that really sucks.
I don't like how the narrative description contains pertinent gameplay information.
This really annoys me because I want to get te winter leaf formation but want them in blobs of 20. Ie 80 dryads minimum. Which sucks you have to overpay to get the benefits. Why do I meet requirements if I take 20 dryads in four seperate units but fail if I blob them. Actually, how? I didn't se the rules allow for you increasing squad sizes? You simply buy two "units" of Dryads for 120. It's not buy a unit and add X number f models for X points. Strictly speaking I am buying two units and fielding them together.
Probably going to drop Rev as only marginally better than dryads but more than twice the price.
Yeah my Kurnoth usually get charged and that is awesome. So K locked in combat always get armor re roll?

Guys, aren't dryads a minimum unit size of 10 according to the generals handbook? Outside of pitched battles I don't think it matters. Wait just checked the Sylvaneth battletome and they are indeed 5.
Now I am more confused as ever. Does that mean in a pitched battle you have to run a unit of ten in accordance with the generals handbook minimum?

I think I misunderstood the rules. Outside of pitched battles it doesn't matter, but the "minimum" size listed in the points profiles is what you're paying for. So in this case I think you would not be able to buy "10 dryads" and field them as 2 units of 5, you would only be able to buy 10 dryads for a single unit of 10. If you only had 5 models built, you could still field a unit of 5, but would still be paying the full points for 10.

This.
Also seconded on the battalions requiring separate units; one would have to buy three units of 10 at the minimum, and Drycha's description determining weapon option (it isn't a narrative section; its a section describing equipment in a fluffy manner).

Because the battalions are for all game modes. Points are matched play only, bit still tie in to Warscroll Requirements.
Under matched play, a unit of Dryads is purchased in multiples of 10 models.
In all other game modes, it's 5.
Model count is irrelevant to warscrolls, it's the number of discrete units.
At the start of each warscroll... "A unit of X has Y or more models".
The Forest Folk Warscroll : "3 units of Dryads"
As for your last point - it doesn't really matter how you organise them on the battlefield, but it does if you want to use the battalions or if you're deviating from the multiple number;
As GHB points are calculated per unit, not for total models of type X on the battlefield, 2 units of 15 Dryads would cost the same as two units of 20, not 3 units of 10 (or one unit of 30).

That is correct.
Battalions have requirements you have to meet to gain the special abilities, there is no way around that.

See my problem is that makes getting the Winterleaf really expensive as I don't want to sink that many points into Dryads.
I'd need at least
BW - 100pts
20 Dry - 240pts
20 Dry - 240pts
20 Dry - 240pts
20 Dry - 240pts
Plus any formation costs
So over 1060pts just for stock infantry. :(
I think that alone has convinced me to go for the one that gives all my spellcasters an extra spell. There I only have to take an ancient in place of a treelord.

I agree that Gnarlroot is they way to go - great battalion.
But you are off on minimum unit size.
It would be more like:
1 BW and 4 units of 10 dryads. Or, you can even field 1 BW and 4 units of 5 Dryads with the drawback that you have to pay the same cost as 4 units of 10 dryads.

A unit Dryads are significantly better the bigger the squad is. They get a bonus to armor over 12 so increasing the squad size to 20 makes a lot of sense. 15 would be wasting points.
Whilst I'd be happy to have 60 dryads in three units of 20, 4 units of 20 would be a little bit much. If I am taking winterleaf grotto to boost my dryads then I want to get the best bonus I can so small squads of 10 won't cut it. At the same time however, I don't want to go to the battle with JUST Dryads.
TBH I don't think anybody at my FLGS will play anything other than points. So sadly Dryads have to be bought in sections of 10.

Project Points Cost has you covered if you can get your buds to use it. Points are the same scale as the GHB but granular and with better balance to boot. The next update should hit this week or so which will make PPC completely compatible with Matched Play (just swap out the points values).
