You've missed the mark. If one wishes to look towards genetic absurdity, one need only gaze upon the Pug. This is a dog which only exists because people with power decided that it's ridiculousness, and subsequent suffering, was adorable.

It is like a munchkin cat, but widely legitimized.

 LordofHats wrote:

A mixture of the natural foods movement, local foods movement, institutional ignorance, and libertarianism.

While I like pugs, I prefer puggles who actually are more similar to the older kind of pug of a few hundred years ago, before the selective breeding went too far.

Self-portrait of Hogarth and his pug.

Anyway, to relate this to the topic, selective breeding and genetic engineering are different things. Genetic engineering allows the insertions of genes that probably would never be able to get into a natural organism, for example, taking an anti-freeze gene from a flatfish and inserting it into a tomato to make tomatoes that are frost-resistant.

The reasons why GMO are frowned upon by a lot of people are (1) the Frankenstein complex, (2) the Roundup Ready seeds from Monsanto, which encourage use of more pesticide and are sterile, depriving farmers of the ability to seed their own corn, and (3) the attitude by Monsanto and other GM companies that consumers should not have the right to know how their food products are produced.

I am outraged! Just outraged!
Is it me or did Trump suddenly appear to have the same immigration position that Ryan and all those "losers" that he decries have?
Has anyone asked Hillary what her position is on China's claims of what appears half of the Pacific Ocean? I'd like to know if she would start WWIII over it. I'd ask Trump but I am not convinced he could find China on a map.

He just gets great deals there.

Well, the latest polls indicate the race continues to tighten and with such a large margin of undecided (close to double 2012), HRC has to be getting a bit nervous. I see that she is finally doing some press events, which is probably a good move. Unless, of course, her face falls off revealing a lizard/robot underneath. That would probably be bad.

Now granted, Drudge is a complete shill for Trump, but I've gotta wonder if there really is anything behind his continual push that Hillary has some pretty serious health issues. You mentioned her doing press conferences, and I guess she was repeatedly interrupted by lengthy coughing fits and the like.

I think coughing = imminent death is only a thing in movies.

The other thing to remember is that back during Benghazi Clinton requested to delay in her testimony as she'd been ill and had a fall. This was treated by the whole of the conservative lying machine as obviously false, just a delaying tactic. There was no way that she could possibly have, you know, gotten sick and had a fall. Now those same people have gone 1,000 miles in the other direction, they don't just accept that actually did have a reason to delay her testimony, they speculate that it is part of some kind of long term condition.

The exact same facts, but now they're just re-interpreted to suit whatever new bs the lying conservative liars who lie want to convince themselves and their credulous readers.

Meh... her illness shouldn't be an issue.

I mean, yeah, McCain faced the same questions... but, frankly I'm not sure it's worth yammering about.

The President will have access to the best healthcare on the planet. So... eh.

Clinton's Foundation story or her handling of classified information is far more damaging to her candidancy.

True, both McCain and Hillary could keel over dead at any moment.

The problem was that a dead McCain would have gotten us Palin, and a dead Hillary would give us Tim Kaine.

I think Palin cost McCain that election in so many different ways...

Sure, it isn't an issue, and all discussion on it varies is based on conspiracy level idiocy.

This should be quite informative about the whole of the conservative press and the methods it uses to push arguments driven entirely by partisan politics with no regard for reality. Once we realise that's going on, it should give us an insight in to the real nature of every single attack that comes out against Clinton, which I just saw nicely described as "Oh, look -- another story that sounds like Clinton corruption, but 25 paragraphs in you learn there's nothing there"

Palin was picked as a game changer, because McCain was already losing. Think of it this way - if you're 5 down and with only seconds left to play and you throw a hail mary pass, the intercept and score against you isn't a good result, but it didn't cost you the match.

I don't believe so. I saw the coughing fits. Sounds like she either has allergies going on or is being affected by the campaigning. She was just fine in the debates and multiple speeches. Often candidates are pretty hoarse and worn out by the end. Bill was practically incapable of speaking for a week or two after the election he was so hoarse.

Given how things have gone for the GOP since, I would say it's the latter. Palin opened the door for what we have now.

I always thought McCain's choice of Sarah Palin was more like "Oh, so the country wants the first African-American President, maybe if we offer the first female VP, we can also capture the public imagination". They saw "female", "governor", and "evangelical" as a winning formula, but I honestly don't think McCain or his people realized what a dullard they had selected until she began campaigning and getting interviews.

Nope. Not wrong... just stubborn. Just like you are...

Even CNN [Clinton News Network] is questioning Clinton's malfeasance after the FBI friday news dump last week:
http://www.cnn.com/2016/09/02/politics/hillary-clinton-fbi-interview-notes/

I mean, think about it....

She's an Ivy League lawyer, wife of a former governor and president, who lived in the White House for eight frick'n years, then went on to be a senator for eight more years in which SIX of those were on the Senate Armed Services Committee (which classified info sharing is routine) and finally 4 years of SoS (a position behind the President in terms of intelligence access) telling the FBI she didn't know about classified email and also that work-related documents needed to be saved as part of the public record?

That (C) meant an alphabetical bullet point and not meaning "Confidential - classified"??

Oops... i blame it in my concussion??

You cannot argue on the one hand to claim of ignorance in one moment and then turn around and advocate that Clinton is this hard-nosed, experienced, understands-how-government-works alternative to Cheeto Jesus in the next.

Doesn't compute.

The best thing at this point is to NOT treat this election as some binary choice... to avoid the "yeah but, he/she is worst!" arguments.
