I will say that many 3rd wave feminists absolutely hate the idea of a Men's Rights Conference. Apparently getting together to talk about issues that effect men is sexist. Issues like male associated diseases, child custody, draconian style alimony in some states, and negative portrayals in media are legitimate male issues.

This doesn't seem to stop feminists from not only protesting these meetings, but also invading them with bullhorns and pulling fire alarms. Afterwards they scream about sexism if they are interrupted talking to the media.

My dad, now deceased, used to use it all the time. He would have been 70 now, so maybe it's gone out of fashion by now, or perhaps my experience is just anecdotal.

The idea of working towards gender equality by addressing discrimination against males certainly isn't sexist in concept; in practice, well...

I'd have to see these incidents you're talking about, because MRA groups in general are hardly a shining beacon of social progress.

This. Just go back and find some of the locked Gamergate threads to see people using it.

I've used it in jest, and seen it used seriously, on this forum.

In the wider world of the internet, it's included in a collection of buzzwords as a handy way to filter out posters not worth taking seriously. Other words on this list include SJW, sheeple, and libtard/conservatard.

This. The issue isn't against the idea that men can talk about issues that effect them, but specifically the MRM (Men's Rights Movement), which is generally a bastion of "woe is us the true victims of society" indignation with no shortage of regular fall backs on really sexist ideas about women. They go right into the same category as your typical Stormfront poster bemoaning the greatest of modern tragedies; the blight of the white man. There are multitudes of reasons not to take it seriously, and to even find the movement absurdist in its current form.

because it's laughable that men can be victims? and our issues are absurd? that's incredibly sexist of you.

I guess it's true then, only women can be victims, they're professionals at it. Woe be to anyone who points out how absurd they can be.

Wow, it's almost like that response was pre-prepared!

There are a handful of very legitimate men's issues. Off the top of my head, you have the over disciplining of boys in schools, custody/alimony laws, and a presumption of male guilt in a mutually abusive domestic situation. Those are topics that need to be talked about more.

But pretty much every Men's Right's group takes a turn towards "women are the worst" territory. This is why we can't have nice things.

well that shows how wrong you are then. I'm not the member of any mens rights groups, let alone all of them. so if that's your only example, we can see how demonstrably wrong polonius statement was.

I said nothing of the sort.

I said that the MRM treats victimhood like a palor game to be won rather than a problem to be addressed, which you've ably demonstrated whether you identify with them or not.

Okay, here's one. The Voice for Men, which put on the Conference for Men alluded to earlier, has a decent breakdown of issues affecting men:

http://www.avoiceformen.com/activism/about/

However, in their editorial and comment policy, they put this at #2:

2.Anti-feminist- AVfM regards feminism as a corrupt, hateful and disingenuous ideology based in female elitism and misandry. And AVfM regards all self proclaimed feminists as agents, unwitting or otherwise, of that hate and corruption.

All I've seen is the damning of one mens right movement, with no facts, and just a witch hunt towards me, for not buying into that nonsense. If it's ok for men to talk about mens issues, why the unjustified attacks against them for doing so?

being anti feminist doesn't equate to "women are the worst" some of their ideas are just downright horrible, look at them blaming facts for being sexist because the facts are against them.

and that's just one group you found, you accused all of them.

And, if I could be so bold, I've spent enough time reading some of the MRA stuff, and I find their fear of women oddly appropriate given their idealization of the alpha male.

By their own theories, the problem isn't society, but the fact that they're all a bunch of wimp noodles that can't make their own way.

I'm as feminist as the day is long, and happily married to a woman that likes to cook for me as well as shop for bourbon and cigars. I'm not sure I need the help of the internet MRAs!

I've read what you guys have been saying. all mens groups are bad because reasons not proven.

I highlight your irony about how mens groups are claiming to be the victim, when that is the goto response from feminists. Then you guys step up to validate what I wrote.
