And here it is folks. Clinton does it and according to Republicans it should disqualify someone from public office, lead to a criminal investigation, and create outrage when it doesn't lead to a prosecution. A Republican decides to do it and... it's "a strange one".
I know you're going to claim that Clinton received top secret info through her server, but if you think any person with high level access running off two email addresses won't lead to the same, you're kidding yourself. And end of the day the motive for Pence here is the same as the motive for Clinton, as it was for Powell before them - they want to avoid transparency laws.
The partisanship is just fething hopeless.
The two instances are nothin alike. Pence produced emails that were official correspondence from Indiana state employees and thus subject to Indian's Freedom of Information Act laws. When Pence produced the emails per the FOIA request the copies were heavily redacted so a complaint was lodged that Pence was violating FOIA laws. Now Indiana state courts will rule on the matter and a judge will decide if Pence is allowed to redact the content of the emails. Pence will have to comply with whatever the ruling is.
Clinton has never had her email scandal go to court. No judge was ever involved and she was never in a position to have a judge rule against her.
Pence faces a real possibility of punishment by the court if he doesn't comply with FOIA laws. Clinton was expressly told that while she was careless and incompetent her violations wouldnt be brought before a court. Totally different situations.
and they're already sick of being called racist because they voted for Trump.
Ah, now I see the disconnect. I don't think you get it. They are racist because they voted for Trump. They can pretend they're not. But they are. They can point to their "black friend" to prove they aren't. They can say they aren't a KKK guy or a nazi. It doesn't change the fact that Trump's whistle was always a call for the nostalgic past where factories were booming and the white man was on the undisputed king of the mountain.
How else can you have someone publicly lauded by a former grand wizard of the KKK and still get elected. Forgiving racism and saying "not a big deal" is no different than putting on a hood and burning a cross. Just less effort.
People can be as racist as they want. That's their perogative. But be honest about it. It'll make you feel better.

By that logic every Democrat that Robert Byrd ever endorsed and any Democrat that cosponsored or supported any of the legislation he proposed in the Senate is a racist. Guilt by association is pretty weak sauce dude.

So were you able to find the charges for the Democrats in Canada that chocked the guy to death/not death?
I'm pretty sure he was gak posting there, because that post is really odd. I'm almost certain Canada has not been annexed yet, and that they have a different political system, and as such no Democrats or Republicans.
Edit : There was, apparently, an incident a month ago at a college where a student was attacked at a college for wearing a trump hat. Still no 70 yr old men, deaths, nor Democrats.

It isn't guilt by association. It's evidence of racism as evidenced by the racists that cheer for his policies.
As trump talks about how "some groups" are taken care of (to his mostly white audience) but "we" have been forgotten. What do you think he is saying?
Forgiving or ignoring the racism trump and his surrogates used is no different than putting on a hood. Actually, the hood may be better. It is at least honest.
Just admit that you're giving trump and his team a pass on being racist. You'll feel better. We all give our chosen candidates a pass on one thing or another. None of them are perfect. We just have to know where that line is. For alot of folks racism is ok.

Also, isn't Trump's son in law and daughter Jewish, and doesn't he want to foster good relations with Israel? How is that anti-semitic behavior? It does not seem logical.
Bannon has been dogged by accusations of racism of all kinds for many years. To be fair to him I don't think there are any recorded moments of him saying anything to the effect outright, but he keeps very... untasteful company.
And honestly. Can we stop using support/lack of support for Israel as a measure of racism? It's grown tiresome. Hitler wanted all the Jews to move somewhere else for a little while before he decided it was easier to just kill them, and lots of Americans thought "well now that this slavery thing is over we should ship all these black folk back to Africa where they came from, never mind what they want."
Indeed... I never got the sense of anti-semitism from him either... but, that doesn't mean he isn't a sinister figure that we ALL should be concerned about.
Well, there were accusations from Bannon's ex-wife that he said that he didn't want his kids to go to a school because there was a high jewish population and that jews raise their kids to be "whiny brats".

Paul Horner, the 38-year-old impresario of a Facebook fake-news empire, has made his living off viral news hoaxes for several years. He has twice convinced the Internet that he’s British graffiti artist Banksy; he also published the very viral, very fake news of a Yelp vs. “South Park” lawsuit last year.
But in recent months, Horner has found the fake-news ecosystem growing more crowded, more political and vastly more influential: In March, Donald Trump’s son Eric and his then-campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, even tweeted links to one of Horner’s faux-articles. His stories have also appeared as news on Google.
In light of concerns that stories like Horner’s may have affected the presidential election, and in the wake of announcements that both Google and Facebook would take action against deceptive outlets, Intersect called Horner to discuss his perspective on fake news. This transcript has been edited for clarity, length and — ahem — bad language.
You’ve been writing fake news for a while now — you’re kind of like the OG Facebook news hoaxer. Well, I’d call it hoaxing or fake news. You’d call it parody or satire. How is that scene different now than it was three or five years ago? Why did something like your story about Obama invalidating the election results (almost 250,000 Facebook shares, as of this writing) go so viral?
Honestly, people are definitely dumber. They just keep passing stuff around. Nobody fact-checks anything anymore — I mean, that’s how Trump got elected. He just said whatever he wanted, and people believed everything, and when the things he said turned out not to be true, people didn’t care because they’d already accepted it. It’s real scary. I’ve never seen anything like it.
You mentioned Trump, and you’ve probably heard the argument, or the concern, that fake news somehow helped him get elected. What do you make of that?
My sites were picked up by Trump supporters all the time. I think Trump is in the White House because of me. His followers don’t fact-check anything — they’ll post everything, believe anything. His campaign manager posted my story about a protester getting paid $3,500 as fact. Like, I made that up. I posted a fake ad on Craigslist.
Why? I mean — why would you even write that?
Just ’cause his supporters were under the belief that people were getting paid to protest at their rallies, and that’s just insane. I’ve gone to Trump protests — trust me, no one needs to get paid to protest Trump. I just wanted to make fun of that insane belief, but it took off. They actually believed it.
I thought they’d fact-check it, and it’d make them look worse. I mean that’s how this always works: Someone posts something I write, then they find out it’s false, then they look like idiots. But Trump supporters — they just keep running with it! They never fact-check anything! Now he’s in the White House. Looking back, instead of hurting the campaign, I think I helped it. And that feels [bad].
You think you personally helped elect Trump?
I don’t know. I don’t know if I did or not. I don’t know. I don’t know.
I guess I’m curious, if you believed you might be having an unfair impact on the election — especially if that impact went against your own political beliefs — why didn’t you stop? Why keep writing?
I didn’t think it was possible for him to get elected president. I thought I was messing with the campaign, maybe I wasn’t messing them up as much as I wanted — but I never thought he’d actually get elected. I didn’t even think about it. In hindsight, everyone should’ve seen this coming — everyone assumed Hillary [Clinton] would just get in. But she didn’t, and Trump is president.
Speaking of Clinton — did you target fake news at her supporters? Or Gary Johnson’s, for that matter? (Horner’s Facebook picture shows him at a rally for Johnson.)
No. I hate Trump.
Is that it? You posted on Facebook a couple weeks ago that you had a lot of ideas for satirizing Clinton and other figures, but that “no joke . . . in doing this for six years, the people who clicked ads the most, like it’s the cure for cancer, is right-wing Republicans.” That makes it sound like you’ve found targeting conservatives is more profitable.
Yeah, it is. They don’t fact-check.
But a Trump presidency is good for you from a business perspective, right?
It’s great for anybody who does anything with satire — there’s nothing you can’t write about now that people won’t believe. I can write the craziest thing about Trump, and people will believe it. I wrote a lot of crazy anti-Muslim stuff — like about Trump wanting to put badges on Muslims, or not allowing them in the airport, or making them stand in their own line — and people went along with it!
Facebook and Google recently announced that they’d no longer let fake-news sites use their advertising platforms. I know you basically make your living from those services. How worried are you about this?
This whole Google AdSense thing is pretty scary. And all this Facebook stuff. I make most of my money from AdSense — like, you wouldn’t believe how much money I make from it. Right now I make like $10,000 a month from AdSense.
I know ways of getting hooked up under different names and sites. So probably if they cracked down, I would try different things. I have at least 10 sites right now. If they crack down on a couple, I’ll just use others. They could shut down advertising on all my sites, and I think I’d be okay. Plus, Facebook and AdSense make a lot of money from [advertising on fake news sites] for them to just get rid of it. They’d lose a lot of money.
But if it did really go away, that would suck. I don’t know what I would do.
Thinking about this less selfishly, though — it might be good if Facebook and Google took action, right? Because the effects you’re describing are pretty scary.
Yeah, I mean — a lot of the sites people are talking about, they’re just total BS sites. There’s no creativity or purpose behind them. I’m glad they’re getting rid of them. I don’t like getting lumped in with Huzlers. I like getting lumped in with the Onion. The stuff I do — I spend more time on it. There’s purpose and meaning behind it. I don’t just write fake news just to write it.
So, yeah, I see a lot of the sites they’re listing, and I’m like — good. There are so many horrible sites out there. I’m glad they’re getting rid of those sites.
I just hope they don’t get rid of mine, too.
So, yeah, between guys like this and Macedonian teenagers - and an electorate that's decided to stop checking if what they're reading is true or not - we have Trump.

Clearly the rust belt was less than impressed with Obama's attempt at fixing the economy and Hilary's promises to carry on his policies.

But you recognize they are on the rise, which is the whole point. It isn't surprise that such things happen, but that they are growing in number.
Prestor Jon wrote: Condemning such acts on Internet forums isn't going to make a difference either.
Of course it makes a difference, just a slight one, as the first part of any problem is recognizing there is a problem, but the argument was never that taking note of the rise was going to solve the problem anyway. The problem is that we have data that there is a growing number of incidents but that people want to ignore it. This is a discussion forum where we discuss things. Hand waving something and acting as if the only way we can talk about something is if we are going to make the largest difference would mean never discussing anything or sharing any information.
Prestor Jon wrote: The KKK and nephew nazis don't pose an existential threat to the US and they no longer have widespread support in local and state govts so they are pursued and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Don't be an alarmist.
The reason they don't have overt support in those areas isn't because people just pretended nothing could or would happen. Ignoring a small fire doesn't put out that fire. Putting our head in the sand does even less than what you complain about that already does very little.
Even if we make it political Trump isn't happy about this and I imagine many of his voters aren't either but what we get is "well leftist media conspiracy" and "herp derp Dems" instead. The craziness isn't (entirely) in the article but in the ludicrous response we are seeing.

And they're going to be even less impressed now. Obama and Hillary never directly promised to bring all their jobs back, after all.

Ok, judging by your post I'm assuming you're having a go, so here's my source
I say apparently as I don't know the veracity of the source. The video could have staged, for all I know. It is very likely that it is legit, but generally one should not believe everything one reads on the internet.
So, he was challenged for wearing the hat and then somebody else snatched it off his head. It was wrong to snatch it but not really the level of violence initially claimed (which was the "70 year old man strangled" thing).
I never said it was? I was sharing the closest incident (location wise) I could find to what was claimed. I never said it was as violent.

Spoiler:
Hillary Clinton lists Robert Byrd as one of her mentors, and nobody calls her a racist, so I definitely empathize. I'll say it again for the benefit of everyone: at this point the only thing I care about is financial and border security. As long as I can support and spoil my family, my own personal social viewpoints come firmly in last place. I'd hope that there'd still be a balanced view when it comes to social issues, but I'm not holding my breath

Oh great, so we're back to willful ignorance on Byrd.
NAACP MOURNS THE PASSING OF U.S. SENATOR ROBERT BYRD
June 29, 2010
Longest Serving Member of Congress Became a Champion for Civil Rights and Liberties
WASHINGTON, DC - The NAACP is saddened by the passing of United States Senator Robert Byrd. Byrd, the longest serving member of congress was first elected to the U.S. House from in 1952 and was elected Senator in 1958. Byrd passed away this morning at the age of 92.
"Senator Byrd reflects the transformative power of this nation," stated NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous. "Senator Byrd went from being an active member of the KKK to a being a stalwart supporter of the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act and many other pieces of seminal legislation that advanced the civil rights and liberties of our country.
"Senator Byrd came to consistently support the NAACP civil rights agenda, doing well on the NAACP Annual Civil Rights Report Card. He stood with us on many issues of crucial importance to our members from the reauthorization of the Voting Rights Act, the historic health care legislation of 2010 and his support for the Hate Crimes Prevention legislation," stated Hilary O. Shelton, Director of the NAACP Washington Bureau and Senior Vice President for Advocacy and Policy. "Senator Byrd was a master of the Senate Rules, and helped strategize passage of legislation that helped millions of Americans. He will be sorely missed."
Founded in 1909, the NAACP is the nation's oldest and largest civil rights organization. Its members throughout the United States and the world are the premier advocates for civil rights in their communities, conducting voter mobilization and monitoring equal opportunity in the public and private sectors

I brought up Byrd in retort to the claim that "someone lauded by a former grand wizard of the KK" can be elected president. Not a current grand wizard of the KKK but a FORMER grand wizard of the KKK. Robert Byrd was a FORMER Exalted Cyclops of his local KKK chapter so by ender502's logic, anyone a FORMER KKK leader lauds is racist which would include anyone lauded by Byrd, a FORMER Klan leader. I never misconstrued Byrd's involvement in the KKK or was willfully ignorant of anything.
and they're already sick of being called racist because they voted for Trump.

I suppose there is something to be said though, in looking at the person's life after they've officially left the Klan. As posted, Byrd apparently renounced the group he was formerly a part of.... David Duke has not, to my knowledge. Ergo, Duke is still a flaming racist and someone who's endorsements should be avoided.

I heard that was actually the nun that attacked a trump supporter but then both were beheaded by a low flying russian jet which had accidentally encroached on US airspace.
I heard the jet was being piloted by a Orangutan who was really Hillary Clinton in disguise who was in fact a cyborg piloted by a lizardman.
I have photographic proof of the pilot

Did I mention the Orangutan was Trump? The entire thing is a lizardman conspiracy, in retribution for Age of Sigmar. My uncle pet rock told me so. His name is Steve.

I'm pretty sure we're talking about David Duke here. David Duke, who was a member and leader of the KKK, who never disavowed the KKK and, to this day, still espouses their beliefs and works with them.
To compare Duke to Byrd is, yes, being willfully ignorant. Because comparing the two ignores that Byrd turned his values, both socially and politically, around to the relative opposite of what he held while his was in the KKK. David Duke has not. In fact, Duke has continued and encouraged these kind of values.

Agreed, not every former KKK member is the same, that's why it's a bad idea to make generalizations.
How does a candidate avoid an endorsement? People are free to endorse whomever they want, it's not the candidate's fault if somebody endorses them.

The post I responded to never mentioned David Duke. If it was supposed to be a reference to David Duke then it should have been more clear. You seem to be under the impression that I stated or implied that Byrd never renounced his former leadership role in the KKK, when I have done nothing of the sort.
