But the important thing is that the Red Team Won and we are just bitching about loosing a game of politics because we suck as playing Twittah or something. It's not about real world consequences, it's not about actual living breathing people being affected by politics. It's a fething game and the only things that matters is that your team got a score.
And as long as we argue with the players we are participating in their stupid game, so why do we keep on rolling the dice with them?
Well... you gotta admit, Democrats just got their teeth kicked in. So, they'll need to dust off, recalibrate and get back in the political thunderdome.
Most of the posts I've seen are (aside from the Hamilton and university things), are, for example, concerns over major players in the new administration thinking that electrocuting gay people is a really awesome idea that's worth funding.
Electrocuting gays? Who's saying that in the new administration?
I'd guess pence would, it's part of his conversion "therapy"
He was (and still is?) a huge proponent of abstinence and traditional marriage.
Anyone got a definitive quote from Pence defending the electrocuting treatment?
When I first heard about it, I believed it... however, I've yet to see anything that Pence advocated electrocuting treatement.
There is no direct line from pence to electrocution. He does support the rich to perform gay conversion therapy. Some have advocated electroshock as a method of "curing" gayness. It worries me that advocate to torture of innocent kids may be creeping around the white house. I the same manner as alt-right brietbart fans may get access.
I thought electroshick therapy was illegal or at best CPS would be on you like Frazzled on chocolate and take the kids in a hot second.

We need actual journalism and news, not fluff. Vox/Salon/Breitbart/NY Times are all on the same level of "Make gak up as fast as possible and write an article"
Why do you hate capitalism?
I work at a top US bank, voted for our president elect, and like to spend my money on resin toys
Why would trump ignore breitbart aka the trump news network
When I trust HuffPo more than the Clinton news Network - I stopped bothering to read any far right or far left news sources. Breitbart should be ignored - too radical

Congress should support the reauthorization of the Ryan White Care Act only after completion of an audit to ensure that federal dollars were no longer being given to organizations that celebrate and encourage the types of behaviors that facilitate the spreading of the HIV virus. Resources should be directed toward those institutions which provide assistance to those seeking to change their sexual behavior.
Wouldn't this basically ban federal funding going to anything which is not advocating safe sex and condom use?

Whether you think that the President should represent the states or the people is inconsequential to the problems facing the College. The Electoral College is undemocratic and much worse, by its own rules, it's anti-republic. If you favor the the College, you have to come to terms those facts. We all aren't represented equally by our vote only based on where we happen to live at the time that vote is cast. I've mentioned faithless electors because that's where the anti-republicanism comes in. By the rules of the College, these people are not beholden to your will and are free to act on their own volition in an attempt to protect you from yourself. How can we call ourselves a republic when the supreme power is not vested in the people but a small number of unknown, unelected, party insiders?
No, that particular nightmare situation has not happened in the past and hopefully will not happen in the future, but why leave it open to happen? Whether you're in favor of the College or not, saying, "Because that's just the way it is," isn't really an acceptable answer.
Alright... let's bury the hatchet.
I was wrong to call you out and yes you've made prior criticisms over the EC.
I guess it's the "conservative" in me that loathes to make sweeping changes of this magnitude... I mean, to me the EC was an ingenious compromise, allowing the popular election (sans NE and ME) of the president, but on a state-by-state basis. Citizens vote for president, with the winner in each state taking all the state’s electoral votes based on the number of seats that state has in the Senate and House combined.
I'll submit it's not perfect and that it could use some tweaks. I just don't like the idea of a straight up National Popular Vote. Unless... every citizen is required to vote (ala, Austrialia), then I can get behind the NPV (even then, I have reservation because not everyone would bone up on the issues). But we know that's just a pipe dream.
Fact is, the people in their state have the power to tweak the EC to such fashion that the 'electoral voters' could simply be a virtual count for that state. That would remove the potential for 'unfaithful electors'
Just as they have the power to allocate the EV based on National Popular Vote result.
So my flippant "Because that's just the way it is" is really an acknowledgement that getting those types of changes would be extremely difficult and require:s serious political capital.
EDIT: it probably won't change your mind, but I did find this intriguing:
This is a map showing HRC cracking 50% of the state popular vote... of 13 states. Trump got 23 states where he reached 50% of the popular vote:
Here's some more perspective:
Trump did better state-wise than Bill Clinton (both), Carter ('76), and Kennedy ('60).

It's a bit of a murky statement and I didn't particularly want to delve in to it other than it sounding like a real stretch to say he supports electroshock therapy from that statement
Does it mean he only wants to support sex ed programs that teach abstinence or monogamy as the best option? Which is not necessarily a bad thing *if* current sex ed programs pretend condoms are a silver bullet, but I can't speak to the quality of sex ed in the USA, lol.

I just had a chuckle at the "HIV virus" part. It seems as though there's no problem for the Department of Redundancy Department, which is currently having no problems.

It would be pretty hilarious if that unlikely scheme of gathering enough faithless electors to topple Trump succeded.
Maybe the criticism against the EC system would not sound so bad after all I suspect, to those who now apparently cannot perceive anyone opposing legislation on principle, regardless of which side benefits.
- It's pretty silly that one can win the precidency while losing the majority vote
- Haha, you're just salty because Clinton lost. I support this system because... eh... well, anyway; this is the system we have at the moment. If you want to change the EC put it up for Constitutional Amendment., until then quit yer bichin - I was criticizing the system on a principle level you know...
[faithless electors flips, costing Trump the electoral vote]
- Hey, the electors aren't supposed to change their vote! So now the shoe is on the other foot it seems. This is the system we have at the moment, "If you want to change the EC put it up for Constitutional Amendment., until then quit yer bichin."

Yeah, which is why it doesn't really make sense for Pence to be supporting it with a statement in 2000 which never directly stated he supported electroshock.
"Resources should be directed toward those institutions which provide assistance to those seeking to change their sexual behavior." doesn't really scream out! "OMG we need to electrocute the gays straight", if anything had I not had any background and read that statement I might have thought he was talking about therapy for sexoholics or some such.

Your understanding of the electoral system is incorrect. They were never intended to be tied to the popular vote. Even today only "pledges" to vote for a parry's nominee have been judged as legal. No state currently has a law requiring the electors to vote for a party's specific candidate. They do however have fines associated with being a faithless elector. To date no one has ever been fined or jailed for beinga faithless elector. Such punishments have also not been ruled on.
That doesn't change my opinion that the ec set up, much like congress is a fairly problematic compromise when you see someone losing the popular vote and still winning the electoral vote.

Yeah, its been illegal since the 1970s, iirc.
IIRC, it hasn't been made illegal in some places... it has very much fallen out of use since around then though. Thinking on it a bit more, and I may have to look it up if I get the time, but I think California was one of the more recent states to ban it, and for some reason I think that was the 1990s, not the 70s.
Yiannopoulos appears to be a sociopathic internet-ubertroll willing to start any kind of controversy for the sake of attention. He's so toxic that he managed to get himself banned from Twitter, something even Trump couldn't do. In that, I can imagine why he and Pence get along - a distinct lack of empathy for other members of the human race would make for familiar, if strange bedfellows.
Pun intended.

Also, whether it involves trying to shock the gay out of you or not, there's a nasty overlap between conversion therapy and the 'troubled teen' industry; it's like a Venn Diagram of child abuse.

ECT can still be used for some disorders, however it is done under general anaesthetic nowadays. It is quite good at temporarily alleviating the symptoms of some illnesses such as depression and bi-polar disorder.

Temple is hilarious right now - all of a sudden Trump supporters popping up. Looks like a lot of philly republicans were staying undercover until after the election results. Trump hats every time I take the train now - and the black Israelites even had pro trump gear (but to tally troll others... since all they do is rustle the locals).

Yiannopoulos is a bully and an opportunist. He picks whatever extreme position he can to make the most money out people as he can. He's gone from "gamers are lazy, fat, and worthless" to being right in the thick of the GG asshattery. He fething blamed the Pulse shooting on the "gay establishment," for not being massive Islamophobes I (kinda, the tweet was weird). And also claimed that he chose to be gay (and that it wasn't a choice), and that lesbians don't exist. He is not someone to be taken seriously. Reference to him, along with the terms "SJW", "Libtard" and "cuck" are great pointers to tell that the person who you are communicating with is an ignorant donkey-cave. At least from my experience. It's just an extension of the anti-feminist, anti-woman, anti-equality bs that has cropped up in certain segments of my generation. Which in it'self is a product of the grr...
