I don't know, California is the sate currently threatening to leave the union. They right wing?

I think threatening is a pretty strong word for an action almost no Californians want to take. By that logic, California is threatening to open a chain of marijuana ice cream parlors, based on that group of stoners who won't shut up.

Will the initiative make their next ballot? Seems likely with the way the campaign for it is going. So yes, threatening is a valid description. If it is soundly defeated you'll have a point.

It's a continuation of their "this is our AOR" game that they've been playing the last 5 years. China has been stepping up the provocation with us in that region for a while now. It's not all Trump's fault.

I'm going to say it...

When Obama was elected... anything bad was Bush's fault.

When Obama was re-elected... anything bad was either Bush's fault or Congressional Republican's fault...

When Obama leaves office... it'll be Trump's fault.

Now, now, ladies. Don't get your conservative panties in a bunch. Nobody is pointing partisan fingers, but merely making an observation as to the fact that China...and others, to be sure...are soon, or now, going to begin testing the NKOTB. China saw a benign means to respond to Trump's Taiwanese overtures and took it, methinks. Now just turn down the defense mechanisms and have a beer for God's sake.

That's just because we tend to be subtler about it.

Here in NY, we actually have medical marijuana, and were one of the states to legalize gay marriage. You don't hear about it because we didn't make a fuss about it.

Coal mining is a tragedy on several levels. If only we had available, abundant, cleaner energy options that offered professional fields where people could find jobs and careers that don't kill them a little every day instead...*just shakes head*

80,000 +/- total coal miner jobs in US, over 500,000 clean energy jobs in California alone. Reality can be harsh, but in the end, is reality nonetheless.

And hey, at least now Trump can get rid of those pesky regulations which inhibit the free market, such as health and safety regulations which have tried to prevent these kinds of things.

I don't think that those are the regulations he is after, but who knows with Trump.

I do believe that regulatory capture is a serious problem and inhibits business and anything which could help pull down those hurdles would be great.

Regulatory capture is when a regulatory agency is controlled by the sector it is supposed to be regulating

Regulations are needed because of externalities. For every ton of coal burned, there are quantifiable damages to public health. If regulations weren't a thing, there would be an enormous "tragedy of the commons" problem in the US.

Interestingly enough, supporters of nuclear power make the valid argument that coal-burning power stations release more radioactive isotopes into the atmosphere than nuclear power stations.
