I'll be the first to admit, the Deathwatch models look great. I'm not a big SM fan, but might even get a copy.
However, considering all of the Ynnead/Eldar-centric teases that Games Workshop has been putting out all week, I was getting really excited for some new lore/models/rules for them, or Slaanesh, or...well, anything. I can't be the only one in this boat, right?

There are two new Harlequin formations, a new Eldrad model and a set that lets you buy a decent amount of harlequins.

The set looks pretty good to me actually, those Deathwatch models are so good its making me want to change my plans for my next army. Some more brand new Harlequin models would have been welcome of course but the line is pretty new anyway (I think). As for new fiction there will probably be some of that next year so we better all be careful what we wish for

*New* depends on your definition, since aside from the Solitaire and the vehicles all of them are based on the old 4th ed Harlequin models (which are not bad, but definitely not new).
The only disappointment for me is that this is another combo set, which means either I'm gonna start yet another new subfaction of an army, or trying to find someone to split the contents with and how to split it evenly (the Harlequins have much better value than the Space Marines). Would have been better if it was two separate Start Collecting! sets instead.

Personally I like it, and plan on getingat least one.
Deathwatch seem awesome, and I always love having more Harlequins, especially the special ones they have in those rules.

They're plastic models that came out like a year or two ago. That's pretty damn new if you ask me, even if the designs are based on the 4th ed metals (which were in turn based on the Rogue Trader and 2nd ed metals).

I'm mostly just disappointed that GW decided "what we need is another SM chapter!"
But that's more a Deathwatch-complaint than a Death Masque-complaint.

The Deathwatch are so cool though. They are every chapter. Which is why I like them. I can make an army of SM DW and have all my fav chapters without the need for full chapter rules for all of them.
Actually I kind of think these is what default space marines should have been and the DW rpg was my first exposure to more in depth SM lore.
Your not going to see me say I like space marines a lot. When the new Tau updates come in the 40k end times I'll be back to my usual drum beating.

I'm only sad that I bought enough harlequins when they came out, so buying the box doesn't seem attractive enough

I got bollocked on my clubs FB page for asking why we had to have yet another Space Marine release.
But why do we? I am fed up with seeing yet more 'muhreens this and muhreens that'. Just give us something else GW, update one of the other codexes. Give Chaos something decent, make Guard competitive again and for feths sake give the Sisters an actual codex and model update.

Oh don't worry. The Eldar of all kinds are going to be getting a lot of love soon. I can tell. I can feel it in the winds of change.
This release is just the prelude to the main event.

I'm happy with it since they're giving Deathwatch an actual codex to go with it.
I held off on Harley's back when the codex dropped because I felt they were too expensive, but at this price I'm thinking about doubling up on Death Masque. It's a better deal than the Getting Started Boxes, especially with the mini rulebooks are included.

So some quick math, the Harlequin portion alone is approximately 180 USD, meaning you are getting Eldrad, plus the rulebooks, plus all the deathwatch stuff for about negative 30 USD.
|
Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

I don't imagine that Harlequins sold all that well, after their initial release. This let's them clear the stock rooms of Harlequin models while promoting sales of the 2 $30 models not included in the box and the $50 codex.

Unlike the Genestealer cults, these designs are literally the same as they were from 4th edition, just reposed and made into plastic. That means these models technically are almost a decade old in designs, which is pretty old. It's not the same as the 4th ed being based on Rogue Trader, as those models merely took inspiration. Even Eldrad had his designs updated for this release, even if it's subtle. It's like how the BA Assault Terminators had a lukewarm reception because they're just reposes of the Space Hulk Terminators (which are almost just as old).
Purifier wrote:I'm mostly just disappointed that GW decided "what we need is another SM chapter!"

This I'm actually fine with. Deathwatch has been one Space Marine army everyone wanted an official codex for a good few editions now (I think the last time they even got rules, minus the Overkill board game, was in Chapter Approved?). However I still wish they'd be merged into one codex with the inquisition, grey knights and SoBs to cut down on the bloat somewhat.

I'm impressed with the sculpts, and the Deathwatch is unassailably cool, but I'm gonna pass. I have so much DA and Tau to paint that it doesn't make sense to start a third army. I love what GW is doing, but it's not for me right now.

Disappointed? Is there something wrong with you?
We are talking about a box set that if you bought separately would cost well over double the price.
If you bought it just for one force it would be cheaper than buying that force separately PLUS you get another force on top of that.
And the box contains new sculpts on top of everything else
But by all means be disappointed by it

He's not saying he's disappointed in the value of the box, he's saying he's disappointed that despite all the teasers we've had, the Eldar are a side-show.

The title says disappointed with Death Masque. He was excited for some new models, lore or rules despite being all three in the box for both sides he is still disappointed somehow
