Subject: Dreadnoughts for grey knights, now a potential choice?

With the recent boost to all dreadnoughts in the recent FAQ, and the current meta of high volume S6-7 shooting are dreadnoughts becoming a viable choice for grey knights again? Maybe not the most competitive choice but no longer a completely ignored option? The grey knights 5th ed duel autocannon dred is dead, no question. 4 S7 AP4 shots are not scaring anything, but with base 4 S10 attacks in close combat, is a lascannon or assault cannon dred a choice again? Is getting wounded on 4's with a 2+ save for our dreadknights really that much better than getting glanced on a 6 with a 5+ cover or a 6++? I am curious to your thoughts out there if an army list with grey knights dreadnoughts might be a reasonable choice now?

I'd say take the FW option for the Psycannon. Assuming that's still legal. Then you would just fill up your elite slots with those and do the same ol' Heavy Support Dreadknights. Automatically Appended Next Post: Just remember Dread Knights are harder to kill in the long run and get to combat MUCH quicker.

I have 6 dreadnoughts in my Gk army, so I will continue to field them. The extra attacks are very welcome

Dreadknights are still leagues ahead of Dreadnoughts sadly.
Dreadknights are faster, more survivable, have better weapon options and can ID T6+ with force.
Having said that, there's maybe a case to be made for running Dreads in addition to Dreadknights. Keep them cheap with a single TL-Autocannon and put them in cover on/near objectives in your table half. There certainly better at this role than Terminators, and cheaper than strikes+razor.
YMMV as to how useful you find this though.

The hardest issues dread have to overcome is the over abundance of strength 6 currently available. However the jump from armor 12 to 13 is quite expensive. I say this as someone who LOVES dreadnaughts, has like 13 of them(6-7 FW, 2 of the new plastic contemptors and a bunch of chapter specific ones and a bunch of FW arms to match). I cant wait to bust out my for fun as many dreads as possible army once forgeworld says all dreads get the extra attack.
What the extra attacks have done however is made a one melee, one ranged dreadnought viable, letting them become more versatile.

Don't give the Dread two melee weapons. Grey Knights don't get Drop Pods, so it'll do nothing the entire game.
I'd say check out if the Psycannon upgrade is still legal for them. If so, equip ALL of them with Psycannons and march them up to support the Dreadknights. Otherwise just do the standard Rifleman.

No psybolt ammo on Autocannons any more, sadly, no!
Best bet is going to be lurking in cover and shooting a cheap-ish, long-range weapon for most of the game, then nipping out and crumping heads with your DCCW once the battlefield is already a bit clearer (notably of things that can easily bust your armour open). But even then GK dreads are likely to seem overpriced and underperforming, most games.

I like bringing dreads in with a storm Raven.
Storm Raven MM/ TL AC
10x purfiers
Dread with MM.
This force hits like a truck...on turn 3...

At best, but might not until turn 4.
If GKs had Drop Pods (which they really should have) than Dreads would be a nice option, as would Purifiers. But without Pods, you pretty much have to use Storm Ravens to make either unit work, which kills the ability to spam either.
