Hi all, post-uni and finally managed to get back into the hobby, trying out new lists now that I have the 'new' Scions etc. How's this for a half-decent 1000pt list? (Total is actually 995 pts). C&C welcome.

Looks pretty good for a 1,000 point list, assuming you won't see any flyers. I'd probably give meltaguns to both units of Scions in case you fight Knights or something.

I'd strongly consider taking the Grenadiers doctrine on the Plasma Veterans. Dropping the Scions down to Melta and cutting the Autocannons gives you the 30 points necessary. The armor save is great thanks to Gets Hot!.

Hmm that does look snazzy...only concern is perhaps I should re-work it to shoe-horn more troops in for obj grabbing or something?

Maybe if you can find the points the get started tempestus formation might be good, Gives you a recyclable squad of tempestus scions could get the vets to embark on their taurox turn 1 to cut some points

If not that maybe take the scions as Tempestus thru an allied detachment for the orders, Giving them twin linked is pretty awsome.

Is there any benefit to having the Scions as an allied detachment? Eg a normal non-lord commissar for a cheap HQ and the two squads - would that allow them to secure objectives like the normal IG troops?

Yes, an allied detachment has ObSec troops just like a CAD.

The main reason to use an allied detachment is to shoehorn in a single good unit into a battleforged list. IE using it to get a squad of Space Marine centurions.

It may not allow you to re-roll warlord trait though...
