I would rather expand to a new army than expand my current armies, because I can play a standard game with all my armies and I have some extra options (i.e. I have 2500-300 points). So, one day when I have more money I would like to start a new army.

I have had the idea and would really like an army make entirely of automatons, machines, golems and/or constructs (maybe with some kind of engineer hero), yes in a fantasy setting. Using models like convergence from PP and the clockwork dragon from Reaper Bones.

The question is, which army? Dwarfs seem obvious, but are there other ideas? Any model suggestions?
Being able to play multiple systems with it would be a huge bonus.

Ogres might be a good match - big, clunky robot types, not aligned with Good or Evil.

Smaller constructs could be used as the Red Goblins - and the Red Goblin Blaster could be driven by clockwork....

The Auld Grump - not so much *BOOM!* as *SPROING!*

The reason I bought rules and became a real wargamer was because I wanted a properly thought out structure to govern the action instead of just making things up as I went along.

Empire of Dust. I'd expect automatons and metal golems to be slow and methodical and also fearless so shambling would be a good fit and the EoD list has a lot of large infantry/cavalry/monster choices for larger models to fit with. Take cursed priests as engineers - their inspiring bubble represents the ability to do quick repairs to keep the machines fighting and you can have surge and/or heal for general engineering prowess (I fitted these ones with Nitrous - watch them run!). Or a pharaoh would work as a combat engineer (lose access to heal but gain the ability to smash things up with a heavy wrench).

Damn. Now I might have to do this army. Got no other use for my Cryx bits and pieces...

I second the vote for Empire of dust.

Having things be shambling is IMO the most important feature to get the feel of automatons, machines and golems.

EoD has no less than three different shambling monsters, two shambling large infantry in the enslaved guardians (one with inbuilt windblast to represent some mechanical gadget) and some kinda unique war machines.

There is not this idea.

Abyssal dwarfs might work too. Their aesthetic isn't the same as clockwork, but they are more ornate looking than the ordinary dwarfs, which seems like a good fit to me. And they are based more around war machines already.

I would add my vote for the Empire of Dust, the skeletons could be anything from terracota soldiers to animated scarecrow or similar weak constructs, and you have ranged options including bows and crossbows, so you can even use models with some kind of guns if you want. The guardian will give you large infantry options, once again with a ranged version if you want one, and the behemot witll be perfect for some king of big clockwork golem or similar.

The bone dragon is rather fragile, but it's a nice unit and it give you an option to use the reaper clockwork dragon

Empire of Rust? I was ready to cast my vote for Dwarves or even Goblins but this changed my mind.

But it would be nice if Mantic added a clockwork army of its own. Gnome tinkerers for example. Classic.

Fluff wise the halfling from the League of Rhordia already fit nicely the same niche/theme than tinkerer gnomes, they have engineers and exotic war engines after all.

The army lacks golems or other constructs however outside of the iron beast
