Subject: Need to identify a chapter for Deathwatch - any ideas?
|
 |
The Last Chancer Who Survived
|
So I'm constructing a DW Kill Team, and I have the following chapters (and fluff skills):
Galactic Partridges (Watch Captain) - GLOREH AN HONOUR
Blood Ravens (Librarian) - Steals Acquires gak like a pro
Vet. Sergeant (Ultramarine) - Leadership and Strategy
Veteran (Imperial Fists) - Ordnance Expert
Veteran (Iron Hands) - Technical Expert
Veteran (Mortifactors) - Biology Expert
Vanguard Vet (Black Templars) - Witch Hunter
Terminator (Red Skulls) - Infiltration
I need to add another veteran, to bring a second Frag Cannon to the unit. He is to be fluffed as working with the IF marine for fire support.
But I have no idea what chapter to chose for him, or what sort of skills would compliment the unit. Can anyone help?

An Imperial Fist successor would probably get along rather well. a Crimson Fists marine or maybe a smaller chapter like the Iron Knights, they're pretty cool.

How about a Salamander - solid, dependable and looking out for the rest of his team?

I originally though of Crimson Fists, but then I have 3 of Dorn's sons in the same unit. Iron Knights could be cool, but I don't see them adding much to the team.
Salamanders could be good, he could be the one guy that stops his team from murdering all civvies within a 10km radius simply because someone picked up an odd shiny object.

They are often good with tools etc so might also be someone to maintain kit in the field - esp heavy weapons?

Just so you know, the Deathwatch does have apothecaries and techmarines, so "biology expert" and "technical expert" aren't a huge deal. Even if there aren't rules for them they can still be modeled as such.
That said, I would cast my vote for a Blood Angel successor, such as the Angels Vermilion or the Carmine Blades.

Sadly the DW codex omits apothecaries and techmarines.
Why a Blood Angel successor?

I know there's no rules for them but they do still exist and are a part of kill-teams.
As for the Blood Angel? Well you don't have one.
That and I'm against the idea of having more than two or three first founding chapters in the same squad. The odds of it given the number of chapters in the Deathwatch doesn't make sense for me.

Tbf the Ultra and IF are reps for my friends. How would one of the BA successors contribute to the unit, given that their weapon will be a frag cannon?

Personally I would chose Dark Angels or Salamanders for the solid and reliable heavy weapons guy.

It might be that the BA Successor who willingly specialized in heavy weapons as a means to try to discipline themselves in case of the Red Thirst. It's not like the Blood Angels solely consist of Assault Marines after all.

BA and there successors have furioso dreads which can take frag cannons. You can say he is a devastator from one of those chapters that has seen a frag cannon in action while on a dread and just fell in love with it. Got drafted into the Deathwatch and jumped at the chance to use a handheld frag cannon.
Make him a Lamentor just for SnG's

Dark Angels. Their Legion/Chapter is known for having access (and hoarding, fethers!) advanced and early Imperium technology. He could be quite familiar with the Frag Cannon and it's capabilities. He could be a Weapons Expert or Marksman Expert.

You could choose any Chapter, seeing as they'll all have marine proficient in any certain aspect of combat.
White Scars don't have a monopoly on Bikers, Blood Angels have troops other than assault marines, there are melee experts in the Imperial Fists and Ultramarines, and not all Salamanders carry flamers.
I'd suggest a Second or later founding Chapter - you've got a lot of First Founders already. I'd suggest something like the Star Phantoms or Lamenters.

How about a "Fire Claws" marine. You could even give the cannon some eyes and teeth. His skills would be knowing stuff about the really good stuff. Xenos thinies can't stand a chance against weapons in his arsenal.

In the end I went for a Salamanders marine for the feag xannon. He's the human relations expert.
And I am making a SW dreadnought. He gives long unnecessary stories about when he was younger, and complains that the team is doing everything wrong.

if you're still undecided I'd reccomend going with something a bit odd, like a raven guard. a raven guard heavy weapons expert plays agaisnt stero type. which could be a nice idea
