Bounding Black Templar Assault Marine

In 1987 I got both the WFB3rd and 40KRT rulebooks for christmas. It started an on-again, off-again relationship to the hobby that only relatively recently was left on for good. I picked up my first pack of minis in January 1988, 5 citadel warriors for £2.50. I kept one and gave the rest away. In cleaning out some of the boxes in the attic last week I found him again. He's been repainted a couple of times but I still have him. Does anyone else still have theirs? Edit: got the price wrong. It's the age you see ...

I’m not sure what my first mini acquired was, but was a chunk of grenader lead. Which is in the basement somewhere, either one of my early paintjobs, or still just sitting around. My first painted minis are in this batch: The dwarf with the spear over his shoulder is the first IIRC, followed shortly by the guy next to him with the mace/shield (who came in my first paint set, from Ral Partha.) Timeframe is in the mid/late ‘80s.

Pretty sure my habit started with Hero Quest one Christmas (probably '89), and Space Crusade the following Christmas. SC lead me to 40k.
I've still got HQ and all the expansions and recently repainted my player characters -
My first 40k models were a bunch of RTB01 marines, second hand from a guy at school. I still have them and have recently stripped them, rebuilt them and undercoated them. Not got as far as putting any paint on them yet though.

They hold a special place in my heart as my first foray into both drybrushing and washes. And as minis go, held up reasonably well over time.
I’ve also got some old RTB01 beakies in active service, and am in the process of striping some old ones to join my Ultras.
My oldest GW minis are still sporting their original BA paintjob. Only about half these guys are still red, as this is an old picture..

Heroquest, like a few others. Still got most of them, and thanks to a generous best man, I have a complete, unpainted copy complete with all expansions. My wife wasn't quite as thrilled with the gift as I was.

I always loved that traitor captain. It was the overly thick bracers, like the current ravenwing company champ model.

First mini I ever got was some 2nd edition Nurgle Plague Marines.
They still serve me faithfully to the present day, about the only CSM that still perform not-stupidly.

My first EVER miniature, though, not so much. They were 15mm models for the Traveller game back in the 80s.

My first attempt at painting models was a skeleton warrior from a board game that had figurines that would fight over a map and be put into a castle tower with an axe handle that was cranked to make a new model come out.
If that horrid run-on sentence makes any sense... I painted him using my sisters nail polish.
My first GW model was Kharn the Betrayer. I bought him way back in 1996 along with a box of 5 plastic 2nd ed. khorne berzerkers.

While these aren't the first miniatures I ever painted (though they're close to!), they are the first ones I ended up owning! Usi and his accompanying squad of Rubricae were the start of my ever-expanding Thousand Sons army, and will always have a special place in what passes for my heart.

My first ever gaming miniatures were probably the contents of the Clone Strike Starter Set from Wizards of the Coast's Star Wars Miniatures game. I remember the exclusive figures were Jango Fett and Obi-wan Kenobi (and yes, I still have them, plus some 2000 other miniatures from that game). My first GW miniatures were 12 Moria Goblins from the Mines of Moria paint set. One of those is the first miniature I ever painted (if I can dig him out, I might just post a very cringe-worthy picture).

I started with the 2e starter set, so my first minis were monopose space marines. Of those, only one remains. He'd lost his original backpack and weapon, but I gave him a new flamer (from a Necromunda Enforcer of all things) and gave him a backpack with a special unique honor scroll to denote his veteran status. He also received a red helmet in honor of his long years in the Emperor's service.

I do still have them. It was a set with some plastic Tyranid Warriors, Genestealers, Space Marine Scouts and Terminators.
You can see the Tyranid Warriors here: http://adventuresinminiaturegaming.blogspot.com/2010/07/old-tyranid-warriors.html
I painted those much, much later. The first miniature I remember painting was either a plastic space marine sergeant from the 2nd edition 40k box, or one of the Genestealers from that first set I bought. Both turned out really terrible, but I don't have any pictures of them.

My first miniature I still have, Somewhere. He's one of the old pewter Sargent models, the one with the bionic arm holding a chainsword up. I actually have both versions of that model, the Standard Marine and Legion of the Damned versions.

Still have my first model somewhere... currently moving to a new place...
But I remember I got a CSM armed with Autocannon back in the summer of 2000. Remembering it because some guy I worked with back then was shocked that a big guy like me at the age of 18 was still "playing with toys".
I'll get a photo once I find him.

Technically yes. I still have my 5th edition Imrik and Alarielle.
They were part of my first purchase... Imrik, Tyrion, Teclis Tiranoc Chariot and the Everqueen and Handmaidens box.
To say I didn't have a handle on how the game worked would be an understatement. 20 years early for AoS I guess

There were a few others, but my first 40k mini was the basic metal Marine with Meltagun (Sculpted circa 1993 or so) which was shortly followed by the 2nd edition 40k set.
