Ok so, Magnus never really looked human, but he sorta kinda was. Yes he had red skin but so did vulkan had obsidian black skin.
That said all the primarchs that fell to chaos were mutated into a new form except for him.
My teory on the matter is that since hes the second greatest psycker in the galaxy he can control hes form and dint allow tzeench to change him, or maybe tzeench did change him but magnus when, nah I liked been a red man with a lions mane for hair better than an bird with octupus hands or wahtever. What do you think?

That sort of depends on what artwork you are looking at. The old GW Magnus model doesn't look all that human to me.

There's no theory to be had about him controlling his form. It's said many times in the BL novels that include Magnus that he appears as he wants to.

in the Battle of the Fang he had at least 3 forms, an old man, a little kid, and the normal Magnus as you know him. One of the Thousands sons says something to the effect of it being weird seeing Magnus as a child but knowing that was just how he chose to look at that time.

It's also stated a few times in the various Ahriman novels.

It also seems (not sure post heresy) there are shards of magnus all over the place, one in the eye taking ahirman on a tour, another trapped inside the ruinstorm, another was located and banished on prospero, a personal theory of mine is that these are all aspects of magnus that got split when he was defeated by russ on prospero.

That's fascinating and almost implies that Magnus could be rebuilt somehow, into his true, non daemonic version. Or maybe it is a reference to his marines all being disintegrated too.

Aren't Daemon Princes, especially those of Tzeentch, capable of looking however they want? They're beings made of pure, undilluted chaotic energy, after all.

He doesn't. He has demon wings if you notice.

Anyway Magnus doesn't have any true physical form anyway. He can look like whatever he wants, much like the Emperor.

Its implied, not confirmed. And they aren't searching for shards of anything, they are searching for anything that will give them a clue about their origins. IF they are Thousand Sons, and IF the prophecy relates to them, there is a chance they will redeem the Thousand Sons. And there's a chance they'll get wiped out for Heresy.
