What's the Landing Pad do?

It allows the Corvus to start the game on it, turn 1.

It's a strategy I've been playing with in my head, as well.

Blood Angels, Custodes, Tzeentch, Alpha Legion, Astra Militarum, Deathwatch, Thousand Sons, Imperial Knights, Tau, Genestealer Cult.

I have a problem.

Being contrary for the sake of being contrary doesn't make you unique, it makes you annoying.

Exactly. Turn 1: zoom near target. Turn 2: hover and assault.

Honestly? I personally think you are going to get slaughtered.

The problem with pure death watch army is the same problem my RW DW suffer from, it's a very low mode count army. Not counting the black star, you only have 38 models that if I'm correct have on average a 3+ save, also assuming t4.

Just by sheer volume you are going to get over whelmed by horde armies. Because 1850 of orcs IS A LOT OF ORKs!

I think you would be better off running 1000 points of marines and 850 or DW

To many unpainted models to count.

If he's playing in a tournament setting the fear of being overwhelmed by a horde is less likely, I imagine.

At least it seems horde style armies never place, that is.

** I'll note I am viewing this with Bias, as I also am thrilled to field my pure DW army.

Even still, he is very susceptible to large amounts of fire, my ravenwing command squad, a very common thing to see in tournaments can lay into him with 10 rerollable plasma talons wounding on 2 with ap 2. With such small numbers a 5 man squad is going to be lucky to survive, let alone the charge they will suffer afterwards with rending Corvus hammers.

His shield guys will be a tough target for sure, but with no range they can just get kitted around the map.

You would be better off dropping the blackstar/landing pad and picking up 4 drop pods, and a librarian for the points you save. Will also have a few points to upgrade some other stuff if you wanted.

The shield guys will not be a tough target. Many games the dropship will get blown up on the landing pad, or immobilized there before it can take off - because you won't always go first. it is not a good strategy, if it were people would already be doing it with stormravens/vendettas in tournaments- and they are not. Not because no one has thought of it, but because its not really good.

He can. But you would be better with a Fist and a Claw.

He's a Space Wolf player, if anyone is used to playing with less wounds than their opponents Space Wolf players are. I think he's on the right track to covering it with the high ROF weapons.

True, true, but even still low count model armies like that just get over run, so, it's going to be clutch

I may be reading it wrong, but those two Aquila Kill Teams actually aren't.
It says you need 1 unit of Veterans and "one or more" of either Librarians, Terminators, Vanguard Vets or Bikers, in any combination, and you seem to be missing these.

Indeed. I've overread this.

Thanks for all your input. A Blackstar is sadly the only means to transport a Dominatus Kill Team and without Landing Pad it will attack in turn 3-6. By that time, I've either won or been wiped out.

The list has now been streamlined. Every squad in the Watch Company has the ability to tackle hordes by templates and SIA Bolters. There's still a close combat squad. Just Veterans now in a Drop Pod. The Black Shield would indeed be way better and cheaper with Power Fist + Lightning Claw, but I just like the brute look of two fists.

No more Black Spear Strike Force. It's taxes are just unbearable for an already small force. And no more Watch Master .. shame, I really dig the halberd.

Can't zoom turn 1 if you use the landing pad.
Best you can do is move across the board as a fast skimmer, but they won't need sky fire

Yeah DFTS but don't worry, literally no one uses them except for the WAAC people who bring flyers vs no aa or flying army.

Even GW stores say not to use them unless you both agree to

Snap. You're right. That's a huge drawback.

Yeah, I was caught off guard when someone else pointed it out to me.

If I may add my 2 cents, it is possible to have 2 kill teams in your opponents deployment zone turn 1 with a single drop pod. What I threw together is this:

Furor Kill team
1 unit of 6 Veterans
3 Infernus Heavy Boltors
2 shotguns and stormshields
Watch Sergeant has a shotgun and a storm shield as well
1 Heavy Flamer Terminator (to give Fearless and tie squad together)
1 Librarian ML2 w/ Combi-flamer
Attach a watch Master w/ Beacon Angelis
Drop Pod DT

Furor Kill Team MK.2
7 Veterans
2 Frag Cannons
5 boltors
toss in a storm shield or 2
3 Terminators w/ assault cannon
Attach a watch Master w/ Banebolts of Eryxia

Turn 1, drop in the drop pod and move them up to the closest enemy troops choice. Then use the Beacon Angelis and Deep strike the second team within 6" of the first team and lay waste to your opponents troops.

Except you less deathwatch have some super secret rule, I would not be surprised, you can't utilize a becon on a squad that just dropped in because it says in rules they need to have started the turn on the board.

And unless they have super secret rules, you can't move and utilize a becon to see strike you do see striking before you move.

Again I could be wrong because deathwatch have so many special rules you need a massive spread sheet for them all.

God damn phone, those are strikes should be deep strikes lol

One of the DW relics is a teleporter homer that pretty notably lacks the "must be on the field at the start of the turn" caveat for deep strike.
While it could be an oversight that will be errata'ed out in the future, I actually think it's RAI, since there's almost literally in the previous page the homing beacon that actually keeps the usual restriction.

Could very well be, but you still need to see strike before moving so unless you land close, and you can only shoot which I mean, is not that bad but still no charge

Keep looking at this list. I just feel like you are wasting a lot of points in your squads. You really need to have a purpose for each squad because you cannot split fire them. I think you need to drop the melta and Grav Guns for a stormshield and the terminators with assault cannons.

It's just every deathwatch list I've seen has a lot of wasted points. Purpose, everything has purpose.
