So, I'm wondering if it's possible to build a decently competitive Deathlords army?

Here's what I'm thinking:

Nagash - 900

Morghast Archai x2 - 240

Morghast Archai x2 - 240

Morghast Archai x2 - 240

Summoning Points: 380

Total: 2,000

The remaining summoning points give me enough to summon 80 skeletons, a zombie dragon, a terrorgheist, or other nasties (though this would likely be my standard "go-to" pool)

Idea would be to guard Nagash with the Morghasts and move everything up turn 1. Turn 2 place a big summon behind enemy lines to trap them as they move forward, then use Nagash magic to dismantle larger threats while letting Morghasts tie up unites too big for Nagash to one-shot until they're whittled down.

Obviously there are major downsides to this list. Nagash doesn't get to be as nasty as usual due to the summoning restrictions in matched. Also the army is very elite and small, so he'll be focus fired on from the start of the game. Do you think this list is nasty enough to do reasonably well, or is this wishful thinking?

Your last point is the one i'm getting stuck on... the low unit count.

I think it depends on your community, but this list will really struggle with objective based games. My Tomb Kings are similarly low model count (often) but replacing as many models as they do for free every turn makes that a grind I can count on winning, whereas the Morghasts are just going to get worn down over time.

I think right now Death, of all the Grand Alliances, most needs to dip into several lists in order to shine. Outside of TK, no one list has enough tools to handle multiple kinds of competitive lists.

I think it'll work fine, if anything the issue may be that some armies won't have the tools to deal with this and you may need to tone things back against those opponents. The thing is, Nagash is fully capable of dropping the models he needs onto objectives that dead enemies no longer hold

Road to Renown! It's like classic Path to Glory, but repaired, remastered, expanded! https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/778170.page

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

I think this was definitely true in before matched play, but now I am just unsure about how much true offense Nagash can bring to bear. I know the skeleton wall can be good, as can the other monster options, but I don't think it gets around the issue of target priority this list will definitely face.

To be fair, I have not yet run Nagash in matched play, so maybe he really can deal out enough damage to make it less of an issue (and certainly makes me much less afraid of elite monsters with hand of death...), but still, I'm curious what others thoughts are.
