So I like to run my tau commander with a unit of drones and was wondering if I give my commander a counterfire defense system letting him over watch at BS 2 and he has a drone controller letting his drones use his BS do they benefit from the boosted BS in the assault phase?

I'm pretty sure they do looking at RAW but I'm not sure if I am missing something else that stops this from being possible.

Counter fire does not change the bearers BS, their BS doesn't change when snap firing. Snapfiring has you shoot at a specific BS; and counter fire raises that for the 1 model that has it.

Drones in a unit that has a BS5 model in it(with a controller) still have a BS5 when they fire their snapshots at BS1.

In short, no it does not work.

Counterfire actually says "A model with counterfire defense network fires Overwatch at Ballistic Skill 2, rather than 1"

Personally I do think they should work together but it seems the entire internet will disagree. The argument against it is that Counterfire doesn't boost ballistic skill it gives the model holding it the ability to fire snap shots at bs2 instead of bs1

Yes, that is what I said; the model fires at bs2, not the model has bs2. The model's BS never changes for snapfire or counterfire, snapfire has you fire at BS1; and counterfire allows the model with the system to fire overwatch(which is a snapfire) at BS2.

Ahhh I see I was missing the distinction that you were pointing out between him getting to fire at BS 2 versus him actually being BS 2. Thanks a lot for clearing that up!
