Subject: Kill Team Campaign - Necromunda cross over?

Hi all,
I've just been reading the new Kill Teams book and it seems like a throwback to Necromunda, but without the team progression aspect
Has anyone given any thought to a Necromunda / Mordheim / Gorka-Morka style experience / injury campaign?

I've been working on something of the sort. If you keep an eye on the blog in my signature you may see it sometime soon.

While the semi-random progression system is cool for campaigns, I'd actually love to see a Necromunda-style game that includes more of the large 40k factions (eldar, 'crons, etc.) and allows you to spend points on upgrades during list creation rather than rolling for it over time.
The campaign style is great if you're playing an actual campaign, but it would be nice to have the option to take some of the cool, fluffy options on my dudes without waiting to roll for the right thing on a table.
|
ATTENTION. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

Necromunda and Mordheim both included optional matched-play systems for doing just that, actually. I haven't incorporated that into my system as of the current draft because of the lack of testing but it's probably going to make an appearance eventually.

I have. When he told me he was going to have D-weapons and T6 Nurgle Bikes in his game I said "No, thank you" and went to build a game I thought would work better.

The way anyone does. Wraithguard and Distortion Cannons. (T7 D-weapon artillery platforms! In Core!)

I've only barely glanced at HoR (and loved what I saw), but it doesn't seem like you'd be able to fit many wraith guard into a list. It also seems like they'd be pretty bad in such a small-scale game. Sure, you'll murder the snot out of that ork boy, but you won't have as many high-cost targets to get the most out of your expensive d-weapons. It feels like snipers and special weapons would trade very well with a wraith guard.
Distortion cannons are probably a bit more problematic as they're barrage and 24" range.

I can see that but also remember the way its meant to be played, heavy terrain, and if a shot scatteres, it still can go off in his face because its based off of LoS, so if he fires a D blast from poking his head around the corner, if he scatters toward the wall and the wall is between him and the scatter it hits the wall so he can end up shootin himself.
+ that become a super hard target to hit.
You can always take a terminator with an assault canon and a teleporter, and jump right behind it and shoot it up.

You seem to have missed my point. I went to try and put together a Killteam/Mordheim project because I wanted a game where the focus was put back on basic units, the fact that we're discussing using teleporting Terminators to counter D-cannon artillery at all means that HoR has failed to address my design parameters.

Well you can implement your own rules, HoR is designed to be used with house rules.

Actually, I just peeked at the current Heralds of Ruin rules. D-cannons are just strength 4 small blasts that "crit" on 6s. Same with d-scythes but templates instead of blasts. Wraithcannons are strength 10, but don't do multiple wounds. That doesn't seem so bad on a model that's theoretically a ton of your army's points.

Well there you go, they even neutered D weapons.

And I thought Mordheim was closer to my end goal and chose to start by doctoring it instead of by doctoring HoR.

Does that game have vehicles in it?
I loved being able to tinker and modify the buggies and trucks in Gorkamorka and I'd love to introduce some scout sentinels or a forge world Tauros with RPG elements into a skirmish game like necromunda

So update to this, we are doing this at my store, run the Harald of ruin rules, except, when it comes to how XP works, use mordhim rules.
Its working out pretty well.
Also we got ride of Battle honors, and you roll for what you get on upgrades to your character.

Heralds of Ruin is generally superior to GW's Kill Team if you ask me, and has its own campaign system a lot like Necromunda's. There are no vehicles in it besides walkers though. I'd check it out.

HoR doesn't, though it does have veterancy for light vehicle crew in the campaign rules. There's a Specialist Games Magazine supplement for Necromunda called Ash Wastes that does have customizable vehicles, I'm planning on including something based on that in my system but I'm trying to get the core rules out the door first.

I would like into HoR + doing character levelup and xp from mordhim.
Honestly dont do vehicles, unless its dedicated transports which again HoR have rules for that, or special objective vehicles like each side gets a tank this game with out any point cost.

My planned restrictions are actually a little tighter than HoR's. They aren't final but I'm extremely leery of including any vehicle chassis with an AV of 12 in its 40k statline on any face (the only exception I'm considering is the Chimera), while HoR's '34 AV total' restriction allows (among other things) Falcons (12-12-10) and Repressors (13-11-10).
The only inclusions I haven't made a final decision on are Necrons (pending a decision on how Quantum Shielding is going to work) and the Devilfish (I'm leaving the Wave Serpent behind because the Eldar can just bring a Venom/Starweaver-equivalent, but the Tau don't have a light transport vehicle).
My file of inspirations for mission design does include a 4e Kill Team mission where the Kill Team has to sneak through the Brute squads to the vehicle, get it started, and get out, the time delay of getting the vehicle powered up could lead in a lot of interesting directions.
