What would happen if, say Jain Zar, slew Lucius the Eternal? Assuming she took some measure of satisfaction Lucius would try to possess her, however as a Phoenix Lord she already has thousands of souls in her body who's to say Lucius could overpower all of them? Do you think we'd get a Doctor Jackul and Mr Hyde type deal where the many Phoenix souls repress Lucius but he'd come out in short bursts or do you think all of the Eldar souls might repress him so hard he'll never come out again?

I actually think the Eldar's plan to defeat Slaanesh is something similar to this!
Eldar want to create Ynnead, a new god from the spirits of their dead in the infinity circuit.
I think the followers of the laughing god are going to perform some kind of bait and switch that tricks Slaanesh into entering / being trapped in the infinity circuit in exchange of Ynnead being freed from it.
... not that anything could go wrong with that!

Seeing as though Lucius can already overpower the many souls that reside within his armour with relative ease, what is a few hundred more souls?
(On a seperate point, I love Lucius' law; it shows the true power of the chaos Gods, if you show even the slightest emotion they can use that to completely possess you. It makes me think that the only reason the galaxy is still standing is that they think it is good sport to fight 'fairly'. )

A Phoenix lord in all probability has more souls in their armour or at least as many. They've been around much longer and like Lucius they go around fighting the largest things they can find, probably resulting in similar numbers of deaths. The only difference being that the new Phoenix host is voluntary!
It's also important to remember Eldar souls are much more powerful than human souls, they retain semblance after death and retain a lot of psychic potential. And the original Phoenix soul is the most powerful of all the souls in the armour. So I think Lucius would be the underdog in this fight.

Never liked the phoenix lord fluff, it's really stupid, I'm supposed to believe that the souls of every eldar that have worn the armour are kept in the armour, ok fine, that's eldar, but that whenever the occupant dies no one destroys the armour, or the armour doesn't end up somewhere that no eldar can get to it, nids kill a p lord, then it's dead, no more resurrection, chaos, Orks etc.
Its stupid

I get the feeling this ends up in some sort of loophole abuse;
the soul of the current wearer and his/her body is turned into lucius while the souls already in the armor's soulstone would be safe.

I actually quite like that idea, the only way to defeat lucius forever would be to soulstone the git, I'd happily read a novel about one of the phoenix Lords sacrificing himself to end lucius, maybe the striking scorpion one who may be karandaras goes over to the light side and does it, would a good read.

I think there is fluff about Phoenix Lords going missing for long periods of time, Irylith for instance spent thousands of years buried underground on Betalis III until some human miners uncovered his tomb, and hasn't Asurman been missing for some time now?

Couldn't the eldar just lure Lucius to a tomb world and let the necrons kill him for them? Necrons lack emotions and getting another race to do their dirty work is pretty much the eldar's go-to move.

That's why they lure Lucius and whatever chaos warband he is is with to a tomb world. They piss of Lucius. fly a craftworld by a tombworld , stir up the necron automated defenses and then get out of dodge when the choas fleet show up. It's not like they team up super bestfirends style where Eldrad surfs a destroyer lord into battle and traps Lucius in a tesseract labyrinth while Trayzn stabs him with a warscythe and then leaps out of the body at the last second so the lord that actually kills him is a soulless husk. Although, that's probably what GW will actually do.

How to kill Lucius in 4 easy steps:
- Point gun at him
- Shoot
- Ague endlessly that you didn't kill him, it was the bullet that killed him, and the bullet didn't show any emotion
- Make your GM ragequit and TPK you.

The Diresword Asurmen uses can destroy a daemon outright, if he killed Lucious theres no coming back. Not sure how the others would work. But the theories on this thread are interesting.

By that logic it's technically the sword/spear/axe/pointy thing that killed him, not the person wielding it.

According to the Chaos mutilator all weapons, even something as simple a scalpel, have a basic spirit.
So perhaps Lucius could morph from a particularly proud spear! ;p
The Emperor has been shown to use a special force style attack that permanently deletes the victim from existence and obliterates their soul so there is no way for them to be reborn. Perhaps such an attack could work on Lucius?

So we may end up with 40k version of Lilancor from BG II
that would be fun!

Calling in an orbital strike and then not telling the spacecraft's gunners what happened might be faster (or easier to argue?).
