Was playing around with Battlescribe and I found that a twelve-clown, fully-geared Harlequin Troupe can hit a maximum of 513 points, not including dedicated transports. (583 including dedicated transports, by the way.)

Is there any other troop choice in the game that can beat this? What's the most potentially expensive troop choice in your army? I'm curious to see what happens when we all go crazy with upgrades and wargear.

You know, I'd totally forgotten about that being a thing.

Just played around with it there and got to 3693 points without forgeworld...

Well, given that we have a clear and obvious winner here, what's the most expensive troop every other army has?

In 3rd edition there was an Eldar Seer Council that allowed an unlimited number of warlocks.

So that's ∞ right there. Anyone have ∞+1?

But it shouldn't count since it's no longer current.

Wait seer councils were troops in 3rd? Woah. Eldar OP.

Also, for my input, a maxed-out Castelax troops choice from the Mechanicum.is 880 points. If there was a way to make Thanatar-Cynis troops they'd almost certainly be the best at 1455 for 5.

Armoured Battlegroup troop tank squadron could also be pretty expensive.

170p for a tank + all that upgrades could make around 250 points for single tank, times three.

So roughly 750p for 3 tanks.

I mean, if you're just talking compulsory choices for an army, you could build a heresy army to be 2950 points with one model.

My personal best is 1075 points for my one compulsory model.

Well, if you take maximum upgrades on a Crusader Squad (5 Neophytes, 1 Sword Brother with two Thunder Hammers and melta bombs, 1 Initiate with a Gravgun, 1 Initiate with a Grav Cannon) and give them a Land Raider Crusader with ALL THE UPGRADES and every single Legacy of Glory possible, you can get a 975 pt squad.

Imperial Knights: 375 pts

5th ed Blood Angels could take a 30 man squad of death company with JP and dual TH for 95ppm. The squad could also include Lemartes for another 150, bringing the grand total to 3,000 pts for 30 DC + Lemartes in a troop slot.

Yeah that sounds like it, aside from being 2 editions out of date. If we allow that, then the 3rd Edition Eldar is still better.

At the other side, Alaitoc with a few min-sized squads of Rangers has allowed to apply the disruption table to all non-mounted infantry units. This table was mean.
Back to the topic, my armies (Necrons, Eldar, and whatnot) don't have such expensive troop choice, don't they?

Most expensive thing I can come up with is a fully upgraded Storm Guardian squad with fully-upgraded Wave Serpent at 490, but most of the points come from the Serpent.

As a single troops choice? Unlikely you'll touch the Infantry Platoon.

It won't have a commissar, by the way (technically he's HQ, even if he needs no slot) but I think it can have a conscript squad instead?

As a single unit? The Warlord Titan or Green Tide get close.

If we're going for any single unit then the Kill Team formations form a single unit from an unlimited number of choices for a score of infinite points.

I've got 4,217 for an Elysian platoon, their Dedicated Transports are more expensive.

A Grey Knight Terminator squad caps out at 790pts including the Land Raider. An Inquisitorial Henchmen warband may not be strictly speaking a Troops choice, but twelve Eviscerator/plasma gun Priests comes to 1,006pts including the Land Raider. I don't think I can do much better without going into the Heresy.

I'm not sure even the Heresy could break your 4217! That's the biggest I've seen so far aside from the whacky Deathwatch insanity.

Quick scan of the options in the Heresy has produced 1,455 for a Veletaris/Dracosan platoon in the Solar Auxilia list and 1,355 for a Fulmentarus Terminator squad in a Spartan (Troops under Pride of the Legion), will do a more in-depth check later.
