Still less than the Elysian platoon and loses to one Heresy-era tank destroyer, once the voids are down.

Replace the Shas'vre's equipment with FSE signature systems, mainly the Mirrorcodex, Seismic Fibrillator Node, and Warscraper Drone.
Now that crisis suit squad is 1003 points.

9 tyranid warriors with all the upgrades lands around 500 points IIRC
20 mark of Nurgle chaos marines with additional close combat weapons, lascannon, plasma gun, icon of despair, and veterans of the long war comes to 413 points before you start giving the aspiring champion his upgrades and take a rhino
In a one on one fight the tyranid warriors ruin those guys
EDIT: Never mind, I just realised all of the cult troops can come in units of 20 too. Max Thousand Sons and Plague Marines both reach 600+ with full upgrades and fully upgraded rhinos

Imperialis Militia don't actually have platoons. They may be able to spend 510pts on twenty 3+-armoured Grenadiers with S5 boltguns riding in a 9- HP Gorgon with six lascannons, but that isn't about to keep them in the running for this one.
And 'unit of five T7 MCs as Troops' was promising from the Taghmata but the Castellax are capping out at 915pts.
I think the Elysian platoon wins under the parameters 'one Troops choice' at 4,217, the Deathwatch Kill Team wins as a single unit at 1,071, and the Fulmentarii (960), Castellax (915), and Farsight deathstar (1,003) get honourable mention as single units that are over 900pts without transports.

That's not a single unit, it's a veteran squad and a corvus. Without a transport it tops out at 870, with it tops out at 1111.
A kill team (using the various kill team formations) can be a single unit of infinite size if we're allowing non-troops units. If we're sticking to a single troop unit then so far it's crisis suit squad at 943.

The Leviathan detachment in the Heresy has only a single compulsory slot - it's a Lord of War slot that does not have to respect the 25% restriction. I play an Ordinatus battery with 3 engines at 3000 points, but a kitted Warlord comes to 2950.

If 'Apocalypse dataslate from 4th edition' qualifies as 'a Troops choice' there are plenty without size caps from back then. And from today.

Got it, misread. Current leaderbord for a single Troops unit without transport (no Formations, force org slot changes OK) is the Farsight deathstar (at 968 with the draft FAQ disallowing multiple Relics on one model, 1,003 without), the Fulmentarius Terminator Squad (at 960pts), and the Castellax maniple (at 915pts). In single unit plus Dedicated Transport the lead is probably going to stay the Fulmentarii, and I expect the other two to be 30k units as well riding the weight of their 395-pt Spartans.

It's still the various platoons, if you cut out the "useless" stuff you can still field an enormous amount of models in one unit.

But would anyone actually play them that way? I was under the impression that with 7th ed being a very heavy objective based game, splitting up platoons is the more common thing to do.
