Heya; so, have a fun little local tournament I'm going to tomorrow, ITC rules in full force. Seeing if anyone could help answer a question of mine.

Question pertains to Curse of the Wulfen Daemonic Incursion Detachment, but more or less for super-decurions like this one. So...

I want to take a couple Daemon Lord entries. It is explained that the formations can be taken separately in a battle forged army without using this decurion. NOW... can I JUST take the Daemon Lord entry, which requires 1x model of generic and named greater daemons/Prince per slot and up to 3, or do I have to take them in the decurion?

Essentially, can I take them by themselves without paying for the troop tax of a normal cad?

Thanks!

Probably not.

I’m not familiar with the specifics of you formation, so I’m going to use the Eldar one as an example.

Like most meta formations, it has the core you need to take, and a lot of other stuff. Most of these are formations (aspect host, etc). But some are not. Just single units (like wraithknights) but often with slightly fancy names. This does not make them formations. So you can’t just spam them outside the meta-formation.

If the dataslate has the 3-skulls-on-a-circle formation symbol, rather then a battlefield role/FOC marker, then you can take it by itself.

No, you can never take any of the single unit Command or auxiliary choices outside of their parent decurion as their own detachment / formation.

Eg. Single lord of change or a single unit of furies on their own is not OK, whereas the Tetrad or burning skyhost is fine.

Out of interest, what were you trying to take on it's own and what army list were you trying to jam it in?

I am sorry Drasius you can take the auxiliary formations as their own detachment, if it has its own datasheet (e.g. can take optimized stealth cadre as detachment by self, but not the tau codex drone net which is 1 unit of drones). You are correct in the no command one because it is not a formation with its own datasheet.
