I may be wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that a Black Templar had beaten Lucius the Eternal and almost got away with it except for a sliver of pride in the back of his mind. I can not find his name anywhere. This is a POST HERESY, not any of the fights before Lucius received the gift.

Well, that's pretty standard for Lucuis. It's not like that is a unique thing he's doing.

I have no clue how Dakka's moderation work. I expect it involves throwing a lot of d100 and looking at many random tables.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all.

not sure if that's the case honestly, it's been suggested the chaos gods can ressurect a famous champion irregardless. I suspect the method described in Lucis' bio is just sl;aanesh's prefered method.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

I'm sure Slaanesh can just say "I'm putting my favourite toy back on the table." but it would mean that Necron doesn't have to become Lucius.

The extent of Slaanesh's ability to force Lucius into another person is unclear, anyway. Would it work on a Grey Knight, warded against the Warp and will bent against it? If Lucius ended up on a world where the walls between reality and the Immaterium held firm, or there was a null field, or a Pariah nearby, would Slaanesh still be able to tear through reality to do it? Does the person in question actually have to feel pride or satisfaction at having killed Lucius or does Slaanesh do that just because it can? Could the other Ruinous Powers not do the exact same thing if they wanted?

There are a lot of questions unanswered about it. I'm not sure if being emotionless would necessarily save you if Slaanesh wanted to change the rules.

It could be argued that Lucius is a Perpetual; one of the very few being in the whole universe that can come back from the dead via an unclear process. Slaanesh only takes advantage of it by transfering the essence of Lucius into the body of the one who feels pride about killing him. That being said, according to this theory, Lucius doesn't require a target to come back.

This is entirely hypothetical.
