So in Paris, Saudi Princess Hassa had her guards tie up and beat a decorator for taking photos of her house (despite his perfectly good reason for doing so) and is also said to have ordered them to kill him. She even wanted the guy to kiss her feet. One of her guards has been arrested but she herself has fled back to Saudi Arabia and is claiming diplomatic immunity. Here's the story;

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/09/29/saudi-princess-ordered-paris-interior-decorator-to-kiss-her-feet/

It's things like this (among other things) that make me utterly loath and despise the Saudis. If France has any backbone they'll issue the scumbags an ultimatum; send her back to stand trail or we'll break off diplomatic relations.

By all accounts that's not the worst, and it's not just the Saudis that hide behind diplomatic immunity.

Yeah. Threat of murder should be revoking her imunity, anyway she,s his daughter, not a ambassador.

Why she have imunity.

Secondly body guard was thrown under bus and was caught.
So he taking all the heat.

C Diplomatic imunity us granted by the host I believe.
So they cannot claim it I'm sure, not if France decides to revoke it.

Thus European warrent.
And she wouldbe arrested upon landing in any EU nation, or for now UK.

that's the way diplomatic immunity works, the families of the ambassador and his deputies also have full immunity (as families would be easy targets for states wishing to get at an ambassador)

The host countries need to man up and expel the whole mission when behaviour like this occurs

well revoke hers, and her staff.
kick her bunch out of France. sounds a right nasty woman.

the Ambassador can apolgise for his citizens stupidity and criminal actions.
if she loves Paris and Europe so much,,, maybe she can come answer the charges. or issue a warrant and deny her access to 27 countries or more until she does.

don't roll over to em.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Abdul Aziz was a great and extraordinary man, and lived up to the name 'great man of the desert'. The Arabs habitually follow men of legend when they can be found and the twentieth century only produced two who lived up to the old ways enough to pass into legend, and one was not Arab. Born a prince but with no riches to his name, Abdul Aziz ibn Turki ibn Saud avenged his father and took Riyadh in 1904 with four men and armed with only a spear, and founded his kingdom the old way. He was a desert tracker and traveler and known for many other feats, he secured the Holy cities and the Ottomans dared not face him. Eventually his presence ensured that when the oil bonanza was found under his lands he was given his fair due in spite of the greater powers arrayed to cheat him.

His offspring have squandered his legacy, fallen further and further from the tree and into decadence. It partly because of Abdul Aziz's legacy they still control the country at all, and many think they will not do so for long. I wonder if there are any amongst his many many descendants who can stand along side his legacy.

He has done enough actually. This is a major embarassment, and this Princess Hassa likely wont return to Paris.

The French government should do 3 things.
1. Remove the allowance of Saudi guards to bear arms. Clearly they can't handle the responsibility.
2. Ban this princess from ever entering France again, or at least for a significant amount of time. Also seriously reconsider whether all members of Saudi royalty should be given diplomatic immunity.
3. Initiate legal proceedings against the involved guards.

Apart from that, I'd like to add that diplomatic immunity is absolutely hilarious to have. No one here can touch you, and no one at home cares enough to do something (unless you were to do someting really bad of course)
I imagine this princess must have been laughing quite hard about it.

France is not going to offend the Saudis over the bruises of some house painter.

We were once so close to heaven, St. Peter came out and gave us medals; declaring us "The nicest of the damned".

And that kind of thinking needs to be knocked on the head. Nobody should be above the law of the land.

Especially not those scumbags.

I think most everyone agrees with you on how this will play out, no matter how much we'd like to see justice done.

You think only the Saudis offend this way? The story reaching the press is an indicator of national displeasure. Most incidents of this kind are hushed up.

Uts become a international news item.

No one tried to cover it up for them. France never tried to hide it.

There's been a few quieter incidents with middle east royalty in London that got less notice than this. This is not a unique case by any means.

True but that level of disdain for the local laws.
They are acting like Frances laws are a joke to them. I doubt the French will be entirely happy.

It's all part of a wider issue. Here we have Saudis trafficking people, assaulting people and threatening murder and they're getting clean away with it. That's sickening, and it makes a mockery of our legal systems. It's the smaller things too; every year they ply into London in their super cars and take over the place, holding drag races and parking illegally. They're a law onto themselves and they need brought down to earth.

Yeah, there are lots of incidents like that in the diplomatic community. Most diplomats respect the local laws, but those of some countries are just total beasts. They dont need to act like local laws are a joke to them, they are a joke to them thanks to immunity. And some just take full advantage of that.
