Taco Bell says 40k 8E is going to have fewer factions a la AoS, so big consolidation?
As with Age of Sigmar, there is a desire to reduce the number of 40K factions in the game to a very small number (AoS has 4 for comparison).
What would that mean?
- Space Marines ( BA, DA, DW, GK, Ults, SW)
- Chaos Marines & Daemons
- Eldars ( CWE, DE, Harlies) & Tau
- Inquisition & Guard & Sisters & Admech & Knights
- Team Mindless Eeevil (Nids, Orks, 'crons)
Yes?

Doubtful. They are pushing MORE factions ATM in both 40k and AOS so doubtful they would start now with 40k. Would be kinda odd yo-yo policy. "Hey let's create tons of new factions in AOS!" - some time later - "Hey let's reduce number of factions on 40k!"

Possible, seems a lot like what they did with alliances in AoS.
Could simplify the allies matrix, but not necessarily in a good way...

I could see 'grand alliances' like in AoS but yeah. Imperium would be one, not split into SM and everything else. Chaos. Not sure how the Xenos would combine though.

Doesn't AoS (Age of Sigmar) have groupings of some sort, like Chaos, Order, Death, etc?
Maybe they mean there will be only a few factions like that, like Loopstah said. Imperium, Xenos, Chaos, etc.

Exactly, but I can see them unifying Adeptus Mechanicus into a single codex or bringing back Witch Hunters as unified codex.

AoS is "Grand Alliances", where everybody in the book can team up.
Lumping all of the 40k Xenos together is a problem because Eldars are best buds with Tau, but have a grudge with Necrons & Orks. And nobody likes the bugs. Codex: Xenos is as problematic as Codex: Power Armor trying to merge SM and CSM into the same book.

They have 4 grand alliances but tons of different factions. Old high elves got split into 4 or 5 factions on their own for example...Wood elf book got split into at least 2 separate factions that I know of. Undead got split into several.
Order alliance ALONE has more factions than FB had.
So yeah. Not expecting faction trimming.

PASS!!!!
For the love of everything that is holy, PASS!!!!
We're starting to see rumors leading to Chaos Space Marines possibly being the first codex of the next edition. The current failure of the CSM army as a whole is rooted into GWs decision to 'scale back' their armies back in 4th edition. They have never recovered.
I don't think I can handle them doing the exact same thing again only to change their mind 1 codex later and open the flood gates with eleventybillion Space Marine codex.

If anything, they'll just consolidate the books, like this poster. I think that the groupings could vary a bit (for example space marines may be by themselves with Dark Angels, Space Yiffs, Blood Angels, etc.) and the rest of the imperium in another, but I could see that and would welcome it.
Flames of War does something similar with very large books that have an insane amount of options and lists and it's nice because it drastically cuts down on the amount of books to have to flip through and makes expanding to allies much easier. For example, Grey Wolf has Hungarians, Germans, and Finns. So when I started with Hungarians, it was very easy to expand into the Germans, because I had access to German units in my Hungarian army, already could see their lists in the book, and already knew most of their stats.
I know others wouldn't go for it, but I'd much happier paying more for a book if it's including several factions rules together, especially if they have a lot of ways to work together.

It's a website that pushes rumors out, no matter how poorly-sourced - much how Taco Bell pushes their food out, no matter how bad the ingredients are. Their content is just terrible, which is why I won't use their name or link to them. They don't deserve the clicks or links. ____ Warhams-77 wrote:Shouldnt this survey-like thread be moved to General 40k? I have trouble with the consolidation unless it's basically;
Imperium (All Imperial)
Chaos (CSM/Daemons/Daemonkin)
Eldar (DE/Harlies/CW)
Xenos (Necrons/Tau/Orks/Kroot/etc)
Destruction (Nids/GC)
And even then you get hurt a bit because of the nature of Tyranids. Granted they've essentially done that with undead in fantasy but there are lots of undead and not a whole lot of variation for the bugs.

I think it is worth mentioning this:
Look at the way the various codices have been labeled of late.
Adeptus Astartes is very likely to become its own "faction" within the umbrella of whatever happens. I foresee something like this:
Empire of Man
Adeptus Astartes(Grey Knights, Deathwatch, Space Marines, Space Wolves, Dark Angels, and Blood Angels)
Defenders of Man(Astra Militarum and Ordo Tempestus)
Defenders of Faith(Sisters of Battle and Ecclesiarchal troops)
Adeptus Mechanicus(Cult Mechanicus and Skitarii)
Inquisition
Knights(broken into Imperial and Mechanicus alignments)
Traitors of the Imperium
The Lost and the Damned (Cultists and Renegade Guard)
The Lords of Ruin(Generic Chaos Legionnaire remnants)
The Oathbreakers(Generic Renegade Astartes)
Specific God devoted Legionnaire and Astartes mixes to fill out the numbers.
The Waagh!
Orks broken up into different 'flavors' based upon the various Clans. Stormboyz and Kommandos in the Blood Axes, Lootas in Deff Skullz, etc.
The Ascendant Empire
Tau(vanilla)
Farsight Enclaves
Kroot
Human auxiliaries
The Last of the Eldest
Eldar
Harlequin
Dark Eldar
Another subfaction consisting of 'The Outcasts' based on Rangers led by Illic Nightspear. Call this a hunch, but he's been playing a relatively big role fluffwise.
The Deathless
Necrons
C'Tan
Some subfaction lines based on stuff like Flayed Ones, etc.
The Hungering
Tyranids
Genestealer Cultists
A subfaction breakdown of Tyranids likely done along the lines of the role for items(Vanguard or Invasion roles for example)

It will probably be split up into 3 factions
1. Imperial
2. Traitor Chaos Scum
3. Xenos Scum
That would tend to match up how the Imperium sees everything.

I could see this happening, esp. if GW wants to make the game more accessible.
The Imperium and Chaos being lumped into one book each would be great; the different flavours of Eldar too.
Having 4 grand alliances like in AoS would not work. Orks, Necrons and Tyranids do not play well with others (tyranids and genestealer cults though).
If GW makes the hinted black crusade and tyranid invasion bad enough the Tau and Eldar might join forces , possibly with the Imperium (not saying it's a good idea, just saying it might be a GW one).

Is this the same 40k that relatively recently introduced Genestealer Cults, Deathwatch, two Mechanicus forces, and Knights and is soon to introduce Thousand Sons as a standalone release for Chaos? I will be stunned if GW squatted anything in 40k.
While WHFB released some cool, exciting models right before the end, they didn't introduce any new armies (other than making Demons their own thing).

No, it's like the AoS Grand Alliance combining ALL of the forces of Order into a single big book, rather than having a half dozen smaller books.

Not squat. Consolidate factions into grand factions. Fantasy has more factions right now than 40k but only 4 "Grand Factions".
Personally I hope they go the route of AoS when it comes to factions. Model rules online for free with 4-8 major faction books that have consolidated datasheets released every year or two (for those that like print) and then subfaction books being the focus for individual factions (i.e. Blood Angels and Dark Angels would each have subfaction books for the Armies of the Imperium "Faction")

Strictly speaking, that's kinda/sorta true and kinda/sorta false.
The Grand Alliance books combined things, but they also split them heavily. Those books are supposedly a "stopover" point for the old and new stuff for the time being.

Its probably going to be the imprium getting sucked into a single faction to simplify everything.
thats would cut the whole roster down by half easy. by it self.
Tau could get sucked into eldar or imp if the whole ethereal manipulation becomes a thing but i think they would be fine as a solo.
and probably nid ork and crons will stay solos.

They could achieve this by doing mixed super-duper formations of super formations. So like a Great Crusade detachment could consist of 1+ Gladiuses, Angel Blades or Lion's Blades as Core and 1+ Cadian Battle Groups as Auxiliary with a 0-3 primarchs and/or Emperor of Man as Command.
