Pretty much as the title says - has anyone experimented changing the colour of something like Agrellan Earth ? Is the formula too different to add paint to it to change the colour and still get it to crack nicely ?

Thanks

You typically paint over it while it is drying to achieve the effect you'd like, using a colour you want and medium/appropriate shade. Here's an example from WarhammerTV:

Hope this helps

I did once try...I covered the base and then used a hairdryer to quickly get the paint to start drying. Just before it began to crack apart I dabbed a very wet paint on...I believe I was doing a cracked lava base so I mixed Nuln Oil with abaddon black.

The trick is to dab it on so you don't mess with the basing...

It kinda worked...

EDIT
Someone got in there with the process I followed. I couldn't remember where I saw it but there you go...

Still useful stuff you mentioned nonetheless - I haven't tried the technique myself, as I'm content with slapping on the paint from the pot and drybrushing it with an appropriate colour when it's completely dry.

Interesting stuff guys - thanks for sharing the video. If you can paint over it like that I bet you can add a bit of colour to the technical paint as well - I might need to buy a pot and try it out.

I would just stick to the techniques shown if it were me, as adding paint directly to the technical paint might alter its properties and spoil the effect when you paint it on.

Once the Agrellen Earth is dry you can paint over it any colour you like :-) In fact, I do my Agrellen Earth before priming the model white, and I put a layer of watered PVA glue over it before priming too. Makes sure none of the cracks ever flake off.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)
